Nadya “Octomom” Suleman may have sworn that she would never ask for government assistance. But even the extra money she made posing nude for Closer magazine wasn’t enough to keep her off welfare.

The mother of fourteen is now receiving $2,000 a month from the State of California. The money is deposited into a special debit card account and can only be used to purchase food. Suleman qualified for the card because she is supporting a family of fifteen on an income of less than $119,000 a year—or just under $8,000 for each member of the household.

In 2010, a year after giving birth to octuplets, Suleman said that she refused to become “a self-fulfilling prophesy” and vowed to stay off welfare. When asked why she has reversed her position, Suleman told TMZ that “becoming totally destitute” left her with no other options and that she plans to go off food stamps in a couple months.

Since news of her decision to accept welfare broke, reactions have been mixed. Some are supportive of her decision to put her children before her pride. Others, however, are irate and are evening sending Suleman death threats.

If she neglects her kids then SS becomes the parent and she goes to jail. How much is that gong to cost?
Why dont you help me tell the prolifers its better to help women with contraceptives and abortions and take away the license of irresponsible doctors.

I can't really think of how to respond. She has 14 kids. I don't give a care. She needs welfare. And this is exactly what welfare was created for. Like really, all of you are being selfish. Saying your money is going towards idiots. The point is to feed her kids. That's it. You may not like it, but your money is doing it's job. It's not their to enable idiots, or clean up everyone's mistakes. It's there to stop the consequences of the mistakes that, obviously humans are going to make. You're feeding the kids. And keeping them alive and well. That's what you're paying for. You should be proud of yourself.

I'm pro-choice. And I'm also for contraceptive to prevent that hard choice from having to be made. Until their issues get sorted out I'm more than happy to make sure that the millions of kids who they effect everyday are happy and healthy.

I think welfare is good for the unemployed, low income-earners, the disabled, the old, and students, but the world has FAR to many people on it for people to be rewarded for having more kids. It's bad for all of us.

I do think that the Dr involved here acted rather unethically. Perhaps he should be sued for child support rather than placing the burden for her stupidity upon the system

I wouldn't wish for such havoc to be wrecked upon your body either! I have heard that dark chocolate contains many substances which are actually quite good for the body, and the benefits of a little wine are well documented. Hmmmm..chocolates, white wine (my favorite), minds and bodies...... yeah, cold shower :))

We dont need to help women with contraceptives or abortions either. These women need help learning some personal responsibilty. Take away all this welfare and maybe these women will be more careful before creating children they cant afford, instead of thinking the government will help them. If you want contraceptives or an abortion, pay of it yourself. If you cant afford it, dont have sex. People need to struggle if they make stupid decisions. Take reponsibility for your own mistakes.

Let her get some type of education........get a job that pays REALLY WELL........maybe get a roomie to shre expenses.......plant a garden.....find some friends to give you some old clothes for you and for children, when their children outgrow them!!!! IDEA: GET THE DR OF LET YOU GO THROUGH WITH 8 BABIES FOE SUPPORT!!!!!!!
