SECDEF Leon Panetta announces today the 1993 "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" restriction on gay servicemen is a thing of the past. Openly gay conduct is now authorized in the U.S. military. There are obfuscating certifications and a 60 day delay designed to aid in the mental "social engineering" of the military and the pubic (and to enable people to call me a liar today). But it boils done to a "done deal" and it is only wishful to think otherwise.

We know Obama's personal military experience: NONE

We know Panetta's personal military experience: Commissioned as 2d Lt In 1964, worked two years in Army Military Intelligence, no combat, discharged in 1966 as a 1st Lt.

We know the generals who caved on this issue: Political creatures confirmed by a Progressive Socialist Senate.

From your personal experiences in the military, what adverse consequences do you foresee ?
If you had negative experiences with homosexuals while in the military, share them if you can while keeping personal identities anonymous.

On the other side of the coin, from your personal experiences in the military, what positive consequences do you foresee ?
If you had positive experiences with homosexuals while in the military, share them if you can while keeping personal identities anonymous.

If you have not served in the military, you can still express your opinion -- use the "I have not served in the military" category.

SodaHead: Frank and honest discussion !

Living quarters and community showers onboard Navy Vessels will and has become a problem. Straights will not want to openly share community showers or bunk in tight quarters, especially on Navy Ships, we have women on our vessels, do you know how restricted that is? Of course not. The berthing areas right now are patrolled on Navy Ships because of women onboard, 24 hours a day, a male cannot just walk into female berthing without shouting out "Male on Deck" or for the female "Female on Deck" it is going to get even more restricted on our ships because of this, I can't speak for all the services but I can for the Navy and this is not going to go over well with my shipmates.

Trying to predict the future with no track record is a waste of time. Our military are professionals who have been trained to survive. They Will!

You don't have rights in the military. Try exercising your freedom of speech to your DI in boot camp, for example. There is a reason why we do not bunk with ladies who serve - the same concept should apply to the foxhole with gays. The military is not a place for social experiments. This will turn out badly.

You know I've always thought the military was an outstanding catalyst and melting pot for equality between races in America. That had to happen, and the military made it happen. Problems, sure, but those are behind us except I'm seeing the touchy-feely "diversity" programs are going overboard too often NOW at the expense of competency, ability and leadership. Hope the pendulum centers up, and I think it will if we call attention to it. And I'm not referring to passes for blacks and hispanics and those of oriental heritage. I see them earning their way. But that's my subjective observations about a different issue.

When it comes to homosexuality, we have a whole different set of problems than the race issue had. There'd better be no PDA's (public displays of affection) or hanky-panky, because that's the standard for hetros too. But you can imagine how everyone plays "the game" and it will be ugly, all too frequently I'm afraid. I think the barely post-adolescent girls will have the most problems, being hit on and mind-warped by the pro butches who will be feeling the freedom to hit on them like never before. I've got no empirical evidence for that likelihood, just my gut feeling and knowing what I know.

Referencing rights, that's a Day One lesson in the military that ironically you have given up many of your freedoms in order to protect those same freedoms for others. There's likely a lot of self-centered gay folks thinking the military is going to be a great place for them who are in for a rude awakening. If they're not self-absorbed and have guts and discipline and discretion, those can probably do well.

They may have no rights nor freedom of speech, but they (straights who care) do have the right to vote with their feet and not reenlist when their term expires. It's obvious to me that the military no longer cares about or values the opinion of the significant majority in the armed services who do not want homosexuals openly serving with them.

Since homosexuality wasn't an issue with my U.S. forces pre-DADT and very seldom after DADT, it took the good ol' Italian forces to give us a preview of the "fun" homosexuality can bring to the military. My unit was on the ground in Iraq for weeks without a shower, and the commander of a nearby Italian unit invited our whole unit to use their communal shower. That was a most welcome invitation. On the appointed morning our guys starting using the shower and there was a soldier from the host unit in there, buck naked, stroking his woody with a full-frontal display to our guys and obviously intent on staying in that shower tent as long as we were using it. Our guys left in disgust, spread the word, and everyone stayed away. A top-half wash from a water buffalo would do us just fine until we got some water bladders and set up our own shower.

I GUESS THE DEAD CAT HAS ESTABLISHED A CLEAR SUPERIORITY IN THE CREDIBILITY DEPARTMENT. You know it. I'd like to think if there were another Italian soldier in there he would of whooped the guy upside the head, but of course we couldn't do that. Who knows what to really think about it ? Knowing we were going to be using their shower, maybe they dared the gayest guy in their outfit to go in there and freak us out. Knowing what soldiers will do for fun when stuck in a $#!Thole like that area was, that may be the real explanation. Kind of makes me chuckle thinking about that possibility, as I appreciate a good prank.

Of course, it is so easy and self-serving for them to call me a liar right off the bat.
    They launch right into it.
Sadly, it is not the appropriate sharing of opinions that SodaHead was designed for.
My avatar sends some of them frothing at the mouth before they type a word, so I'm pretty used to it.
Ironic how they proudly trumpet "BN0" and then immediately act so vile. Only someone with a deeply ingrained need to abuse others would do all that.
Funny enough, one of my fears is that someone from my unit at that time will read my recounting of our shared experiences and accidentally ruin my anonymity on SH.

who knows what the italian guy had in mind besides showing off - obviously the guy had issues - another response might have been to turn your back and ignore the guy - no doubt everyone in the tent showering had done much the same thing (to) himself (though more likely than not in private, without a huge audience). there are weirdos everywhere, and judging from what a lot of ex-military men say, there have always been homos in the military but they more or less kept (their sexual interests) to themselves, and nobody made a big deal about it. with the demise of DADT, the male soldiers will be able to hold hands with their burly boyfriends when they are in town if they want and the female soldiers will be able to buss their babes when in town - same things the straight soldiers are now able to do. a few bad actors won't turn the entire service into bad actors i'm sure.
