Obama's Labor Secretary Says You Should Use Your Unemployment Benefits to Start a Business. How About it People?

So here we have an elaborate and glorified cabinet level agency in our government's executive branch dedicated to solving the problems of the labor market in our country and this is what we get from it. So what do you think, everybody? Does Labor Sec. Hilda Solis have a good plan for getting our economy moving again? In light of what it costs you to pay your living expenses of mortgage or renting, food and utilities on the reduced income of your unemployment benefits, do you think it might be a brilliant idea to start your own business at this time in your life?

That same numbskull's department will bust you for starting a lemonade stand and that's about the only business you can generate with unemployment benefits. That woman used to work at La Raza and she must be thinking about her ancestors starting businesses with unemployment benefits in Mexico. She's kind of out of touch with reality.

The problem with starting any business in this county is the outrageous taxes and fees charged by the government. It's funny that the gov't would suggest such an idea. . . If they would allow tax breaks for 'x' amount of years for people on unemployment like they do for new citizens, then yea, it might work. . .

When I was collecting unemployment I was getting $225 a week. How do they expect me to start a business after I pay for housing, utilities, food & clothes for a family of 4 and gas for the car? There is nothing left over to start a business with.

You’re absolutely right about making investments in small businesses, tax credits and brakes and allowing for UI benefits to be used so that people can start their own businesses.

She's talking about using UI money in general. Not people's personal UI checks. The idea she had was to put some of the UIB in reserve to help people who can possibly start a business.
But you righties read it wrong... as usual ....

What is this "UI money in general" you're speaking of? Does it come from Obama's stash? Or does the Dept. of Labor have a slush fund too? UI benefits only come from what working people put into them along with extensions pushed forward in the first two years of Obama's term by the spend happy Dem congressmen. Where does the Labor Secretary propose to get these 'investments' in start up businesses? And to whom in particular would these investments be bestowed? Those starting up green energy companies? LOL

Where does she ever say anything about putting some of the UIB in reserve to help people start a business? Are you making it up as you're going along now, Manny? It isn't the fallacies of progressive economics that's so disgraceful. It's your willingness to spin lies to defend them.

Sec. Solis doesn't have any ideas. This was nothing more than one of her useless brain farts that she hoped might garner some political advantage but went nowhere. Since my last post on this page only 80,000 Americans found work in the month of June while 85,000 gave up looking for work to collect Social Security disability payments. Obama's job creation is up a dry creek. I'd rather see Obama and his whole crew go nomad and you're welcome to join them as they wander in the endless desert of cluelessness. The voters have had enough of him and his crew and are ready to put responsible people in charge of our government for a change.
