Obama War Machine Announces Invasion of Syria

snipe 2012/06/15 21:12:43
Here we go again! Russia's arming Assad and the WH can't wait to get over there and mix it up. I thought Vlad and barack were choom buddies.

CNN reports this afternoon that the Pentagon has finalized plans to attack Syria and forcefully depose its leader, Bashar al-Assad, under the cover of securing weapons of mass destruction and preventing “sectarian violence” it has fomented by supporting and training the Free Syrian Army.

“The U.S. military has completed its own planning for how American troops would conduct a variety of operations against Syria, or to assist neighboring countries in the event action was ordered, officials tell CNN.”

CNN says the Pentagon has “finalized its assessment of what types of units would be needed, how many troops, and even the cost of certain potential operations.”

“There is a sense that if the sectarian violence in Syria grows, it could be worse than what we saw in Iraq,” an unnamed Obama administration official told CNN.

The Pentagon did not reveal a timeline on the planned intervention, but considering the amount of detailed information released to its trusted media asset CNN it is likely the attack will come in a matter of days or weeks instead of months.

Anyone following the news is aware there is a significant humanitarian crisis in Syria. They are equally well aware that the US Administration is looking for an opportunity to intervene. Earlier this week, Hillary Clinton did accuse the Russians of arming the Assad regime with "attack helicopters". Snipe chose to present this information is an emotional and partisan manner.

Snipe was either unaware of or chose to ignore the announcement earlier today in which the Administration acknowledged that the helicopters were indeed existing Syrian assets that Russia returned. They expressed concern about how these helicopters would be used but acknowledged Russia's obligation to return the Syrian assets.

IMO, such emotional hyperbole is inappropriate for discussing what is a serious international situation; a situation which has significant implications for Americas friends and allies in the region such as Israel, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and perhaps Lebanon. What America can and should do about the Syrian situation is a difficult question. Since the situation is unlikely to be resolved by January, 2013, anyone who hopes to be the leader of the free world, aka, President of the USA, must demonstrate an ability to put aside partisan differences and work with the current President to develop a policy which is sustainable. Those who chose to use this situation for partisan advantage are demonstrating their lack of qualification for leadership!!

I will worry about the situation when it comes here. We do not have to intervene in a civil war.

Why should our armed forces fight such a war? Why couldn't we just use automation and ICBM's?

I don't think it's any secret that the US government doesn't give a rat's ass about the Syrian public. Hell, they even see their own public as the enemy. But now they're all concerned about protecting Syrians from their government, while funding the armed terrorist opposition they like to refer to as 'protesters' when Americans are barely allowed to peacefully protest in the US? Does anybody buy that crap?

If we go in there. Russian,China and Iran will certainly get involved. They are allies with Assad. We cannot afford this and Obama would be a fool to involve us in this internal fight. He also has no authority without Congressional approval.

That's what I am thinking also. Maybe Obama thinks this will get himre-elected. No President has ever lost an election during a major war.

If Russia, Iran and China got involved it would be. But this article is only saying that the pentagon only mde plans for war in Syria anyway. Nothing about them doing it.

Russia must have read this article and that's what caused them to send troops, along with sea and air defenses, to Syria, as I posted at my site today. They also sent a dire warning to any country thinking of intervening in Syria.

I doubt the US is going to mix it up with Russia but, with these new weapons Syria is receiving, they may be stupid enough to start some problems with their neighbors, Turkey and Jordan or Saudi Arabia.

It is normal and appropriate that the pentagon have plans of this nature. That doesn't mean they'll be used. We probably have a plan for invading Israel and the moon, too

I do not think Obama will do anything with Syria. He is to aware of anti-war sentiment in the US. If we do engage in another military adventure in the middle east it will probably be with Iran. It will likely do great harm to the US.

Exactly....it is the job of the military to give the President options. It is up to the President whether to use those options. At this point, I am very disturbed by the civilian casualties in Syria. I see no realistic option, however, for military intervention.

This administration has demonstrated significant finesse in it war with Iran and perhaps it can use some of those lessons in Syria. In Libya, it also demonstrated an ability comparable to G Bush Sr and mobilized international forces relatively effectively. As for Syria, It is my understanding the Administration is insisting that the Arab League and Turkey take the lead. Unlike the G Bush, Jr. Administration, this administration is unlikely to pursue any action against a neighbor of Turkey and Jordan with the full cooperation of the Turkish and Jordanian governments...and that probably means no US ground forces. I also suspect this administration would look favorably on requests from Turkey or the Arab League for support from assets unique to the US arsenal, short of nuclear weapons.
