Obama: 'This is your victory'

- Barack Obama told supporters that "change has come to America" as he claimed victory in a historic presidential election.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America -- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you -- we as a people will get there," Obama said in Chicago, Illinois, before an estimated crowd of up to 240,000 people.

With Obama's projected win, he will become the first African-American to win the White House.

"Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant," McCain said.

McCain called Obama to congratulate him, and Obama told the Arizona senator he was eager to sit down and talk about how the two of them can work together.

President Bush also called Obama to offer his congratulations.... Read full article »

President (?) Obama should not have to apologize for his 'mistakes'. He should not be making them. Doesn't he know what he is doing?
He's trying to have the Government take over everything and control our lives. Goodbye freedom.

He has removed the tool that is singularly responsible for stopping al-Qaeda from flying planes into the Library Tower in Los Angeles, Heathrow Airport, and London’s Canary Warf, and blowing up apartment buildings in Chicago, among other plots. It’s not even the end of inauguration week, and Obama is already proving to be the most dangerous man ever to occupy the Oval Office.

What a totally nonsensical statement! You want things to continue as they have? Partisan bickering? nothing getting done? lethal divisvness? continued floundering? What has been "mindless" has been the abysmal leadership we've had to endure for the past 8 years.

I know the comment is true when I see liberals sputtering.

In two weeks we have seen tax cheats nominated to top cabinet positions, missile launches by Iran and North Korea, Eastern Europe in disarray, CIA assassinations in Pakistan that have killed civilians and a steep decline in an already bad economy.

    You got change, alright.

So you think the giantic petard left by the last Administration was going to be "cleaned up in two weeks"? We didn't get into this gawdawful mess in a short time and we sure aren't going to get out of it shortly either. Its been a long time coming and having a totally incompetent former administration hasn't helped matters either.

As far as the cabinet picks, unlike "W", Obama takes full responsibility. Even for Geitner, the life long Republican. Go figure, a President who actually takes responsibility for errors. NK and Iran are testing right now, but they're also testing this new administration. I have every confidence that it will turn out okay. President Obama isn't shaking sabres, sort of believes in using other saner methods. If only he had been around for 9/11. The world would be a heckuva lot safer, with no doubt.

A petard is a bomb so perhaps your metaphor would work better if you used the word 'mess' or a synonym.

I don't expect anything cleaned up in two weeks or one hundred days or even in 4 years.

I judge a person by their actions so far.

In the two weeks Obama has been president, we have seen a record number of poor decisions.

    Need proof?

    Obama agrees with me:

Oooops, thanks Art for the word lesson....I wrongly considered petard to be a better word for sh*t!! I think the desperation of the situation has allowed for some mistakes to be made, but do you notice one huge difference between this President and the last one? President Obama admits that they are his mistakes. According to Bush he didn't admit to anything wrong until right before the end and that was only phrases he "shouldn't have said".....

I didn't mean to sound snotty.

    >President Obama admits that they are his mistakes

I will have to disagree with you on this one.

Not only did Bush not make this many mistakes 3 weeks into his presidency, he regularly did admit mistakes. This is one of the false allegations we heard all the time from the likes of Matthews and Olber but not true.

    Here is some evidence:

CBS is not exactly a friend of Republicans.

I guess I just harken back to when asked at a news conference if "any errors were made in his administration", he replied after a moment of silence...."well, I can't think of any right now, but I'm sure there were some", and then in his Exit interviews where the blame for all the problems seemed to be laid at everyone else's feet. He did admit of course that he shouldn't have used some of the phrases that he did, like "bring em on", and the banner on the ship wasn't good, but then that wasn't his fault either, remember? It was a "Welcome Home" sign for the crew after a voyage at sea and had nothing to do with the war in Iraq.

As far as CBS "not exactly a friend of Republicans", neither is Fox a friend of the Dems.

Can we get past the "my president is better than your president"? Bush did his best and now Obama will do his best. I am sick of hearing the complaints about Bush. He is out of office, why can't we all come together during this world wide financial crisis and try to fix the problem instead of pointing fingers. Let's not forget, WE ARE ALL AMERICANS!!!

You're right. It is time to move on and see what this new Administration can do. But bear in mind that we've had to listen to the complaints au nausium on Bill Clinton and he is still being blamed for stuff that happened 16 years after he came to office.

But I totally agree with your thoughts here. We are indeed, like it or not, in this gawdawful mess together and the sooner we realize that the better off we'll be.
