Republican House Speaker John Boehner hammered President Barack Obama on Tuesday after accounting firm Ernst and Young released a study funded by pro-business groups hostile to the Democrat's agenda. The firm's results showed that Obama's proposed tax hikes on the wealthy could cost the already sputtering economy more than 700,000 jobs.

"Our economy is still struggling under President Obama's policies, and his massive tax hike will only make things tougher," Boehner said in a statement. "It's one of the worst possible ideas at one of the worst possible times for families and small businesses."

Who'd have thunk that a poll funded by a group hostile to the Democrats would have played out any other way?

Really? And what court decides who to label a terrorist? Who makes that decision? What criteria is used to make that decision? What rights protect an individual from such an arbitrary process?

    True. I see your point.

But some of the money that will be shifted to the private sector will not be spent. Whereas all the money held by the gov is spent. May be less of a growth factor.

Government spending ended the Great Depression. Reagan got the economy going (somewhat) by Government Spending - on PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS no less.

On the other hand "less government spending" has half the economies in Europe on the verge of collapse.

    Great plan you've got there.

LOL. Not only did the New Deal end the Depression, but then as now the recovery was made longer by Republican obstinacy and obstructionism, especially by the second most politically activist Supreme Court in American history (after the Roberts court, of course). FDR also made the mistake of listening to the conservatives in 1937 and agreeing to budget cuts that were several years premature and slowed the recovery further.

And President Harry Truman in 1948 vetoed a broad-based tax cut, even in the face of an expected and eventual congressional override, and then asked for a tax increase following his upset victory.

But President Ronald Reagan transformed our conversation about government and turned taxes into the enemy of progress. It is commonly thought that President George H.W. Bush's violation of his "read my lips" pledge cost him re-election and President Bill Clinton's 1993 tax increases cost him control of Congress.

This is more absurd than usual. Did you happen to notice that the so-called "study" is "funded by pro-business groups hostile to the Democrat's agenda"? Did you bother to go a little further and find out that the main funder is the US Chamber of Commerce, which is only slightly less owned by the Right Wing than Boehner himself?

Herbert Hoover, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush have all proved that giving tax cuts to the richest Americans causes economic disaster. Franklin Roosevelt and Bill Clinton have both proved that raising taxes on the richest Americans is one of the most effective ways to stimulate economic growth.

And of course, let's all completely ignore the fact that President Obama has CUT taxes for small businesses SEVENTEEN TIMES since he took office.
