Obama Speech Moved Indoors to Smaller Venue: Why?

President Obama will speak inside the 20,000-seat Time Warner Cable Arena instead of the 74,000-seat Bank of America Stadium. What prompted this change? The president has drawn smaller crowds of devotees during his 2012 re-election campaign. Could the Democrats have moved to a smaller venue to protect the president's image?

Or did the 30% chance of rain scare the Democrats? The rain didn't scare the Democrats just two days ago: "[The speech] at the stadium will go forth rain or shine," pledged Steve Kerrigan, head of the convention, at a Monday morning press conference.

Candidate Barack Obama gave a speech in Fredericksburg, Virginia on September 27, 2008 in the pouring rain. Obama stood in the rain and made his audience get wet in 2008 -- why not in 2012?


Carolina Panther fans sat in the rain and snow to watch their team mostly lose last season. Why won't Obama keep the venue he promised his delegates and devoted believers? The Democrats wouldn't have a problem filling the stadium would they? Maybe because they will check ID of attendees (while demanding we don't check IDs of voters). Democrats could always bus in people like they bus in protesters.

NEWSMAX.COM reports: Democrats say the reason for the switch is the threat of rain on Thursday night, although some observers believe it is because the party did not want the possibility of damaging images of the president speaking before rows of empty seats.
