Politicians love to raise taxes -- and it's not just the Democrats! Do you think that those who are successful and achieve greater income should have to pay a disproportionally greater share of the tax burden?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
President Obama, amid charges of waging class warfare, is expected to push Monday for a tax hike on families earning more than $250,000 -- and an extension of the Bush-era tax rates for families making less than that.

If we do away with capital gains, we are really in trouble!

so you do not want equal taxes then, you want the truly rich to pay less than yourself. Okay.

the average salary in the usa is about $40,000 most of us will never get up to the $100,000 level and even fewer will get to $500,000.
wqake up folks the rich are sucking up al the money and making us pay all the taxes.
and as for the poor, you have to be pretty mean spirited to complain about folks making $15,000 to $22,000 not paying any taxes
  • Marie tesmith47 2012/07/12 18:16:41
    Marie
I doubt if that is the average! Folks getting $15.000 are able to get help, as this is about the poverty level!

it is called income tax, not a job tax. Of course he wants capital gains taxes at a lower level, but only one percent of the population benefits from capital gains. I guess we know where he stands. It is the other 99 percent that are truly moronic.

I know it is income tax. I am not a fan of oromney nor do I like to defend him but as to what I have seen about oromney,he is for keeping capital gains at current level.

Odumbo has just been outed with his massive tax hike on the working middle class under the guise of obama care. So this hype about taxing the rich is supposed to distract those people affected by obama care tax and make them wish to soak the rich so thay forget that obambi has already soaked them.

This is more about the irresponsible government than it is who pays how much. Politicians with their pork barrel spending and government offices going "hog" wild with what they buy are two of the most significant reasons we are in debt. The first thing that money managers do to help people get out of debt is to cut up credit cards because they don't know how to manage their purchases. It's about time that the American people cut up the "credit cards" of the government. Reduce spending, don't grow government employment, and then let's see where we stand. Oooops, that's right, government spends money to garner votes, just like Obama is trying to do now. There are more voters in the poor and middle class than the upper 1%, so tell me. Who do you honestly think will get the economic shaft before government become a more rational consumer?

You shouldn't have to pay more per say but you should have to pay the same rate as the average wage earner who has no access to tax loopholes. The loopholes and tax havens are what need to be eliminated to make taxes fair.

People voting 'yes' on this thread seem to not understand a very basic concept. There are only two things you can do with money. Spend it on goods and services or invest it. Money the government confiscates from 'the rich' is money that is often squandered the way much of the Obama 'stimulus' money was,on things like green energy scams run by well connected Obama donors that ended up costing billions.

Meanwhile, the 'evil rich' aren't spending or investing this money, which means less economic activity and less jobs for everyone. And the 'rich' eventually either run out of money to be taxed or leave to prevent further theft. Lower taxes, on the other hand, encourage real growth in economic activity.

What the attitude the Obama Administration exhibits actually reveals is a distrust of freedom. Rather, they feel that all decisions should be made by people's all-knowing 'betters' in government, who of course should control ALL the wealth. They used to call this feudalism. Nowadays, it's 'socialism'.

Although he's not proposing to RAISE taxes, just let their tax breaks expire. Why do they need tax breaks anyway? It's not like they're hurting financially.

It's not letting tax "breaks" expires. It's letting their tax "rates" go up, which is exactly the same as raising taxes.

Here is the idiocy of taxing small business which are businesses that employ 20 people or more. You are penalizing the job creators ,the backbone of american business. Too many regulations and more taxes is an idiotic plan by a president who only knows how to destroy and rebuild into a communist state. Take all the money from the wealthy, create class warfare, lie through your teeth. Vote this marxist-facist out America.

Heres the funny thing: I'm actually not Republican (If I had to pick one-Democrat). I just think it should be fair. Besides: If you tax the rich, they won't as much money, meaning they might make cuts resulting in job loss.
I don't think its a wise move, but maybe it is. I don't know how to calculate those types of numbers yet.

And if the tax rate was flat at 15% they would pay much more without raising the rate on them! 15% of $250K is much more than 15% of $25K.

Paying taxes are all of our responsibilities. The more you make the more you pay not to punish you, but rather you can afford to pay it. If anyone thinks someone making minimum wage should pay the same percentage as someone who makes $100K and year then don't believe in a free society. Also, if you think someone who $100K a year should pay the same percentage is taxes as someone who makes $100M a year and is worth a billion dollars then you certainly do not understand what it means to live a free society.
