President Obama, amid charges of waging class warfare, is expected to push Monday for a tax hike on families earning more than $250,000 -- and an extension of the Bush-era tax rates for families making less than that.

If the current loopholes still exist, it is pointless. You could charge them 90% taxes, and you wouldn't get more because of the off shore accounts and creative tax paying that they can still do.

The original intent of a tax was to help us pay for the Civil War and the sole purpose of the Federal government was security of its citizens. Over time, government got greedy and the people became more silent and now we are all paying the price. Washington still doesn't have a balanced budget but demands more money tax dollars from the "rich", and we have a President in office that is doing all he can to promote strife and class warfare. Instead, Americans should see through this ploy and recognize the mishandling of our money. Instead of asking for more money from the rich, why not balance a budget!

It makes no sense that people with Mitt Romney's earning pay a lower tax rate than the average, middle class worker. Raising the tax rate on the top 2% of the population will not stress them. They are NOT the job creators. The money they make goes into savings. A lot of it overseas (ask Mitt). They are enjoying a lower tax rate, while out sourcing the jobs overseas. America reaps none of the benefits.

He does NOT pay a lower tax rate. The rate they are touting is a capital gains tax rate, not an income tax rate, but they fail to explain that as it does not feed into their agenda. Romney, like everyone else already paid the higher tax rate when he earned the money. Now he is being taxed again on his investments. You would be paying the same if you had investments.

The fact is that Mitt Romney makes his money through investment earning, which means that he sits on his ass while doing nothing as his oversea's bank accounts get bigger. On the other hand, the average tax payer, who is paying at a much higher rate, is paying on earnings from actually working for a living. Seems bass ackwards to me.

These folks already pay more than the 47% who pay nothing. Everyone needs to have some skin in the game. Want to get rid of business credits, then also get rid of child credits. Fair is fair. They seem to want to take away the incentives for folks to succeed.

If you earn more, you should be allowed to have more. Who is the government to tell me "I don't need it?" It's MY money, I'LL decide what I do with it! Unless, of course, Caesar Obamus just tells the IRS to TAKE it. Where are the Minute Men when you need them? King George was NICE compared to this guy and the current Federal monster!

Really, everyone should pay the same exact amount if we really are going to treat everyone fairly, but everyone needs to pay something. The government is vastly wasteful and 49% don't care because they do not pay a freaking dome of it. Instead they violate the rights of the few that actually pay the tab by demanding more and more. It is getting to where those that pay freaking nothing and take the most have the freakink nerve to vilify those paying for everything. What one makes is nothing but a result of their personal choices and work ethic. The same percentage of a smaller amount is still a much smaller contribution than another EQUAL citizen paying far more for no other reason than they have worked harder and taken more risk. A flat tax by definition is a progressive tax because those that do make more still pay far more. A flat tax is the only tax that provides a system of checks and balances where every time someone's demands spending they actually have to contribute as well. It is a natural mechanism to control spending.

Don't pretend you give a damn about anyone else or are anything more than a thief, otherwise you would be demanding that your taxes go up too in order to pay for all theses things. But democrats do not do that. In reality, democrats are petty thieves looking to steal from others. That is why democrats cry about even paying for their own Social Security or Birth control and Obama's own brother lives in a shack and I have more to charity than Obama and Biden combined prior to Obama running for senate. We see right through you.

And not only do 49% not pay any IRS taxes, the majority of those recieve thousands of dollars over and above what was actually deducted from their pay due to all the credits they can deduct.

Are you sure you're a Conservative Christian? Conservatives don't believe in making someone pay more just because they've earned more. Tax reform would fix all that and any good Conservative should know that. And Christians don't whine about fair and unfair. They get up and help those that need it.

I am really sick of this argument. Mitt Romney pay a 15% capital gains tax. This is in addition to the 35+% he paid at the time he earned the money. It is disengenuous to keep telling Americans he only pays 15% and not telling them this is a capital gains tax which is different than income tax.

I'd be okay with the $1 Million dollar mark, but I'd like to see everyone who has a job pay some Federal INCOME tax, even if it's only a couple of hundred dollars. Every workers should have some 'skin in the game.'

Can someone explain what 'fair share' is when something like 48% don't pay any Federal INCOME taxes?

I would not mind paying another 3% in taxes except for one thing. It would just add to the bloated government and the wasteful spending we have now. Let me see significant spending cuts and a balanced budget first...and then I'd be in favor of a 6% (or even more) increase on myself and others like me.

Of course. Now although I don't necessarily believe in trickle down economics the was that Ronald Reagan defined them, I do believe that the choices made and policies put forth by one president affect future generations. I think that the good economy in the 60's and 70's was due to the tax legislation of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Guess what? He classified himself as a Republican, but he wanted to raise the taxes on top earners to 90%. He put forth a progressive tax that everyone would be flipping turd burgers about these days if Obama were to do such a thing. Although I also think that political parties have "inflated", so to speak, since Einsenhower was in the white house, and I think these days Ike would have been classified as a Democrat.

No they shouldn't pay a disproportionate amount but they already do. Disproportionately lower. Most of their income is capital gains, the only constitutionally taxable income.
So the income derived from the least amount of work that adds nothing of value to society is taxed least.

Sounds fair to me. That way the poor can keep paying the rich and all is right with the world.

That is patently false and capital gains have already been taxed and raising the capital gains simply takes incentive out of investments.to say that investment does not add anything to to society shows a patent lack of any economic comprehension on your part. Also, the poor do not pay anything. You show a complete lack of comprehension of reality.
