We're six months from the general election, and things are starting to get serious. After months of focus on the GOP primary, President Obama is taking a preliminary shot at policy. In an interview with ABC News on Wednesday, Obama became the first U.S. president to publicly support gay marriage. This is a significant change in perspective from his 2008 campaign, when he supported civil unions but opposed gay marriage.

He told ABC News, "For me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couple should be able to get married." Many suspect the sudden shift is in response to public opinion, which has been steadily moving in the direction of support for gay marriage, and while it certainly won't be the focus of the election, it has vast implications for the direction Obama's campaign might head. Do you think it will help Obama get reelected, or will this breaking news do more harm than good?

I am not a homophobe. And yes, you are correct. Very much against adultery. I don't support adultery. You can name as many Republicans as you want. I can equally name Democrats. Rather Republican or Democrat or libertarian or whatever else, it's wrong.

This is Love, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. That's the subject of the bible. Not that love conquers all, not that we should love everyone and all they do.
No, Christ said go and sin no more. He didn't say "I love you, keep on sinning". You twist the bible to make it so you can sin all you want, God is the same yesterday today and forever.

I don't like it when people sin, even when I do it. Don't like lying, adultery, stealing, murder. You know all those things are called SIN.
I have clients that are homosexual and I love them dearly. We laugh and talk and have a great time. I like the person, not the sin.
Sin should disgust everyone.

He just now came out to support gay marriage due to recent early polls believing he will loose next election, he lost almost all of his original support in hollywood, so I think its just a desperate attempt to gain some support there. There are alot of voters who simply will support whoever is popular without really knowing who they are voting for. Quite simply this country is screwed.

I love how you just made everything you just wrote up out of thin air.
1. Early polls don't tell anything about what will happen in November, Any one who follows politics will tell you that.
2. He didn't loose his Hollywood support. There is a fundraiser tonight for him in Hollywood where the tickets sold for a total of 13 million dollars--the largest fundraiser in the history of politics.
3. If all he cared about was getting re-elected he could have kept his mouth shut and not created waves. He cares about the principal of fighting for equality for everyone, not just straight people, but everyone.
4. You really should learn something about politics instead of just watching phony FOX news, so you don't look so stupid when you say something in public.

It is difficult to see how appealing to one percent of the population helps Obama win votes that he would not already get anyway, when at least 60 percent of the population is against defining marriage in any other way than between a man and a woman. The only way this makes sense is if it is intended to increase his fund raising.

Gay people are not 1% of the population, it's closer to 6-8% of the population. Enough to swing any close state. But I agree that Obama did not come out in support of gay marriage to get votes . He did it because it was the correct and moral thing to do.

It would hurt him if he had any chance of getting the right wing religious vote but they aren't voting for him anyway. I would say that the majority of people that will vote for Obama are either supportive of gay marriage or don't care about it.
