Obama Pays For Apology Ads In Pakistan With Taxpayer Dollars - September 20, 2012 by Tim Brown - (WHY?)
The Obama administration is now running “apology” ads in Pakistan. The ads include both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama apologizing for an obscure YouTube video that is blocked in Pakistan.
The television ads in Pakistan feature clips of President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton during press appearances in Washington in which they condemned the video. Their words were subtitled in Urdu.
“We absolutely reject its content and message,” said Clinton in the advertisement.
A caption on the ad reads: “Paid Content.”
The advertisements end with the seal of the American Embassy in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital.
Yes, taxpayers pick up the bill for an otherwise useless waste of money.
660News reports,
U.S. Embassy advertisements condemning an anti-Islam video appeared on Pakistani television on Thursday in an attempt to undercut anger against the United States, where the film was produced. Hundreds of youths, however, clashed with security officials as they tried in vain to reach the embassy in Islamabad amid outrage in many countries over the film’s vulgar depiction of the Prophet Muhammad.
The ads reflected efforts by the U.S. government to distance itself from the video in a country where anti-American sentiment already runs high. Violence linked to the movie has left at least 30 people in seven countries dead, including the American ambassador to Libya. Two people have died in protests in Pakistan.
In recent days, the decision by a French satirical magazine to release cartoons crudely depicting the prophet has added to the tension, as may the upcoming issue of the German satirical magazine Titanic. The magazine’s co-editor Martin Sonneborn said it was up to readers to decide whether the cover of an Arab wielding a sword actually depicts the Prophet Muhammad.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the ad was produced by the embassy, which spent $70,000 to air the 30-second spot on seven Pakistani television stations. Pakistan is the only country where the ads are running. The embassy wanted to run the ads because it determined that the messages of Obama and Clinton were not reaching enough of the Pakistani public through regular news reporting, Nuland said.
So let’s get this straight: The State Department spent seventy grand of taxpayer money to have the Secretary of State and the President of the United States apologize for a film they “allegedly” had nothing to do with. Well it’s nice to know our money is being spent so wisely by Hussein and his administration as they continue to apologize for someone simply exercising their First Amendment rights, instead of reprimanding those who have been attacking the U.S. embassy there in Pakistan.
Here’s the ad you and I are paying for below. Might as well see what our tax dollars are going towards.

I received an email today that put Islam into perspective for me, kind of long but a good read....
This is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation
I have ever read. His references to past history are accurate and
clear. Not long, easy to understand, and well worth the read. The
author of this email is Dr. Emanuel Tanya, a well-known and
well-respected psychiatrist.
This man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II,
owned a number of large industries and owned estates. When asked how
many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our
attitude toward fanaticism.
”Very few people were true Nazis,” he said, “but many enjoyed the
return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one
of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the
majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew

had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration
camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.”
We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that
Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims
just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be
true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to
make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of
fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It
is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50
shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically
slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are
gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is
the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the
fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who
zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and
homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to
become suicide bombers.
The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent
majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in
peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of
about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant….
China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists
managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a
warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way
across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the
systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by
sword, shovel, and bayonet.
And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery? Could it not
be said that the majority of Rwandans were 'peace loving'?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our
powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of
points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their
silence.
Peace-loving Muslims are becoming our enemy when they don't speak up,
because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find
that the fanatics own them , and the end of their world will have
begun.
Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs,
Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many
others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until
it was too late. You can add Americans to this list!
As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only
group that counts--the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes
this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness
that allows the problems to expand. So, extend yourself a bit and send
this on and on and on! Let us hope that thousands, world-wide, read
this and think about it, and send it on before it's too late.
Now Islamic prayers have been introduced into Toronto and other public
schools in Ontario, and, yes, in Ottawa too while the Lord's Prayer
was removed (due to being so offensive?)
The Islamic way may be peaceful for the time being in our country
until the fanatics move in. And we are silent...
#2, $70,000 is chump change for a broadcast-quality video, even when not taking into account the way the Government budgets money (see below).
#3, if it saves even one American life, it would be well worth a lot more than that.
Are you people really too cheap to spend an absolute pittance of taxpayer funds to save American lives!?
Do you realize that in the U.S. budget, to save ink and paper space, monetary figures are written as if divided by a million dollars? So, “$2.50” is not two dollars and fifty cents, but 2½ million dollars!
That means that the very smallest amount they can budget to anything is $10,000, which they would write as “$0.01”! Like a penny!
That video thus cost “$0.07” the way the Government writes monetary figures.
So, you have no rebuttal to my actual substantive points, namely, #s 1 and 3?
Tell ya what: Go tell the Ambassador’s (or any of his staff’s who also died) family to their faces that $70k was too much to spend to keep other people from dying like he did, that their lives aren’t worth that much, video yourself doing it, and upload that to YouTube, then embed that video in your Reply to this post.
If you’re not willing to do that, then you don’t really have the courage of your convictions.
Also, if you’re really concerned about our debt, how about cutting the #1 discretionary expense we have, namely, the military, which costs more than the entire rest of the discretionary budget combined, and also is more than the entire rest of the world spends on defense combined?
$70k is roughly what the Marine Corps alone spends every minute, and they’re far and away the lowest spenders of the branches of the Armed Forces! For the entire defense department, the cost of that video was less than three seconds worth of spending in Fiscal Year 2010!
Ultimately, for those of us who work for a living, money represents the time we work (particularly those of us making an hourly wage), and thus how much of that time (time off of our lives ) we’re willing to give up to get something we want or need.
To make the math easier, let’s say you make $10/hour. If you buy a novel for $10, you’re effectively saying that that novel is worth an hour of your limited lifespan just to obtain the wherewithal to purchase it, not taking into account the time needed to actually find it at the physical or online bookstore, bring it home (including downloading it if online), and read it. Also, of course, there’s the money you spent on gas or Internet access, electricity for the desk lamp to read it by, etc
If you live to be 90 years old (not too unusual for women these days — men, not so much), about 30 years of that will be spent asleep. That leaves 60 years of waking time. Knock off more for other biological necessities (you’ll spend roughly a decade eating and in the bathroom, for instance). Ballpark: 50 years of time you can spend working, traveling, household chores, being with loved ones, doing recreational activities (including reading and posti...

Knock off more for other biological necessities (you’ll spend roughly a decade eating and in the bathroom, for instance). Ballpark: 50 years of time you can spend working, traveling, household chores, being with loved ones, doing recreational activities (including reading and posting on SodaHead), etc.
365¼ days per year × 50 years = 18,262.5 days × 24 hours per day = 438,300 hours not spent asleep, eating, in the bathroom, etc., assuming you live to be 90.
So, that book you just bought, just to get the money to pay for it (not counting any other time and expenses involved), subtracted an hour from that lifetime allotment, because you worked an hour to earn the money. That hour could’ve been used doing other things, like being with family, traveling, other recreational activities, etc., but you traded that hour for $10 that you could then trade for a novel. Why? Because you decided that it was worth it.
That hour of your labor was worth quite a bit more than $10 to your employer (or else you’d be laid off or outright fired). You provided more than $10 worth of income to the employer, doing whatever it was you were hired to do. In actuality, it wasn’t the hour itself that you traded, but the labor you did during that hour. But as far as you’re concerned, it was the hour itself that matters, because that’s one less hour you have in your life to do other things.
If you get a better job, one that pays $60 per hour, then paying for that same novel only represents ten minutes of your life. If you make $100 per hour, that novel’s purchase price represents six minutes of your life.
