Obama or Romney for president in 2012. Your choice?

Gee, I just love intelligent conversations. I learned a lot from my husband, but we fought tooth and nail for years. Yes, I watch MSNC and CNN. I try to watch Faux News now and then just to see what people who watch it are getting out of it. Back when I watched it all the time, I sounded like most people on Sodahead, and I actually joined years ago because I thought it was mostly made up of conservatives and wanted to post with a conservative majority. My husband taught me a lot, but mostly to think for myself. I try to be a fair minded person and resist the urge to call names or belittle another person's intelligence. I think we should be able to talk about these things without resorting to that, and I think that when people call each other names or belittle them, it makes them look ingnorant. Today's republican party frightens me in a way nothing ever has before (and it is not the same idology as the republicans of the Regan era), and it is what the politicians themselves say, plus the formation of Citizen's United. When corporations can actually buy our government, that scares the bejesuz out of me. What do you think about that? I'd love to talk more with you if we can do so without all the put downs and just discuss. You say you have made indepth studies, so tell me about them. I don't claim to be super-smart, but I do think getting off the Fox tit was a good decision. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing more from you if we can talk without you commenting on my lack of intelligence.

ok.. and I apologize for the comment but seriously when I hear folks say that someone else talked them into being something.. no matter what, I question why they don't make up their own minds by going for the truth.. The truth is the only thing that really matters for if we make decisions based on anything else.. we are not being honest. So I will share with you the truth about several things and that truth came from research. ..2 years of it.
I don't have a lot of time today but I will start with something I think you don't know.. You have referred to Obamas Christian church of choice.. so please try to follow the summary here to understand why that statement is so incorrect.
Obama and his wife attended Trinity United church of Christ.
The following are facts about that church:
"It is based upon marxism .. and racism. "
The fact is some of the heirarchy of this so called "church" are actually communists. The theory behind this organization ..their dogma.. was espoused by James H Cone and he has several books that are available to read.. One is Black Liberation Theology and Black Power. James H Cone commented to Jeremiah Wright that Trinity United more than any other "church" displayed the tenants of his black liberation theology.
Here is a bit of the thinking of James Cone..
-- Blacks could not accept our Christian God because he is all loving and they could never worship a God that loved whites.
Therefore they made their own god, he was black and he hates whites and loves blacks.. and so should blacks hate whites.
That alone is proof that they are far from being Christian.. it is also proof that they are racists.
The Obamas remained in this organization for 20 years hearing the racism, the hate and anti-American rhetoric. They never once complained about the racism, therefore they condoned it. That makes them also racists.
This organization is more about political insurrection than it is about religion and the now infamous sermons of Jeremiah Wright are just part of the proof of that.
In summary, the Obamas are not Christian, have not been and are not now, but they are in fact the anti-American, racists ..among other things, that this organization instilled in them. You must remember that Obama himself told us that Jeremiah Wright was the single most important person in his adult life and who had influenced him the most.. He held Wright in very high esteem and their family called him "uncle".

Well, I do think there are versions of what passes for Christianity. Most KKK think they are fine Christian people. I don't think that President Obama hates gay people and he started out saying that as a Christian, marriage was for a man and a woman, but now he says his thoughts on that are evolving. I don't think he's ever been a Muslim. Perhaps he did look into it as a teen or in college or something. I don't know that he did, but it wouldn't surprise me. He would not be the first one to be attracted to something radical in hopes of belonging. No matter what you tell me, I am still convinced that he is a good and decent man. I've been more hurt by fellow Christians than I ever have by those of other or no spiritual beliefs, so although I still call myself a Christian, I don't agree with most of what the so-called Christian Right believe in, which is the "Prosperity Doctrine" that began infiltrating our mainstream Christian Churches in the 1980s, while at the same time Ayn Rand's book originally written in the early 1950's "Atlas Shrugged" began making a comeback in popularity. I've posted with many a so-called Christian conservative that will defend Ms. Rand's prescribed way of life even though they know she was a self-described Atheist who hated Christianity or any belief in a Supreme Being. And even though Ms. Rand claimed to hate social programs and referred to poverty as evil, she herself got Medicare when she was dying of cancer, but she used her husband's name because she didn't want people to know. I know I've verred off the point, but people believe in lots of different things, and that I may not approve of President Obama's particular church or that his pastor has a prejudice towards white people, the man himself has not shown that to me. When I hear him saying some of the things the GOP say, then I will probably think he's a man not to be trusted and I certainly won't like him or vote for him. And yes, I understand that people lie and represent themselves, but when people openly say things that make me cringe, they certainly won't get my vote. I do, BTW, enjoy posting with you. I keep thinking I should go back and check and see if we've been nasty to each other on other topics, but I guess it doesn't matter since we are being respectful, even though we vehemently disagree, here.
