Obama Ignores the Will of the People as Expressed by Their Elected Representatives and Implements Most Elements of the Dream Act by Executive Fiat!

Obama gives young illegal aliens de facto amnesty, say critics
While practicing the fine art of "linguistic gymnastics," the
Obama administration on Friday blessed an estimated 800,000 young,
illegal aliens with a bite of the amnesty apple, according to critics of President Barack Obama's immigration enforcement record.
In an announcement sure to create controversy and anger many
Americans, President Obama on Friday announced that effective
immediately, certain young people who were brought to the United States
as young children, do not present a risk to national security or public safety,
and meet several key criteria will be considered for "relief from
removal from the country or from entering into removal proceedings."
Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, President Obama told reporters that who
demonstrate that they meet his administration's criteria will be
eligible to receive deferred action for a period of two years, subject
to renewal, and will be eligible to apply for work authorization.
Obama was careful to add that the Department of Homeland Security
will continue to focus its enforcement resources on the removal of
individuals who pose a national security or public safety risk,
including "immigrants convicted of crimes, violent criminals, felons,
and repeat immigration law offenders."
He claimed today’s action further enhances the DHS ability to focus
on these priority removals. However, many lawmakers and observers have
said President Obama is bypassing the U.S. Congress.
"Had any other president done this, the news media and the U.S.
Congress would be shouting from the rafters about abuse of power by the
executive branch of the government," said Mike Baker, a political
strategist.
Under this directive, individuals who demonstrate that they meet the
following criteria will be eligible for an exercise of discretion,
specifically deferred action, on a case-by-case basis if they: came
to the United States under the age of sixteen; have continuously resided
in the United States for a least five years preceding the date of this
memorandum and are present in the United States on the date of this
memorandum; are currently in school, have graduated from high school,
have obtained a general education development certificate, or are
honorably discharged veterans of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the
United States; have not been convicted of a felony offense, a
significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or
otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety; are not
above the age of thirty.
Obama's announcement today comes just one week before
he's scheduled to address a large Latino audience, a constituency he
requires to win re-election.
During his Rose Garden announcement, Obama promised that only those individuals who can prove through verifiable documentation that they meet these criteria will be eligible for deferred action.
. . . .
that has the power under the Constitution to establish "a uniform rule
of naturalization," and inasmuch as Congress has voted against President
Obama's "Dream Act," will someone explain to me how it is that the
president can override the decision of the peoples' representatives and
implement almost every element of the Dream Act by executive fiat? Have
we become a dictatorship under the Obama administration? Whether they agree with the provisions of the Dream Act or not, every American should be concerned by the usurpation of power by the Executive Branch under this administration!

+6In this instance the Dream Act was voted down by a democrat-controlled congress, yet he is implementing most of its provisions anyway. That's a difference in degree only, I guess, because he's doing the same thing with the EPA and cap & trade which was also voted down.reply - Cuppajo Ken 2012/06/15 22:49:35

+5My thought is that he is daring the Republicans to do anything about it, even though it was a Democrat-controlled congress that voted against the Dream Act. He is hoping they will come out and oppose it and drive more Hispanics into his corner. My suggestion is that Republicans in the House pass a law making it a felony for any non-citizen, whether in this country legally or illegally, to register and or attempt to vote, punishable by a mandatory two years, deportation and a ban on ever gaining U.S. citizenship. That way Obama's hoped-for illegal alien vote will be greatly diminished. I am certain that setting up polling places in the casinos in Vegas and letting illegals working there vote is what got Harry Reid reelected. They have no voter ID law in Nevada and the SEIU is very strong among the casino employees.reply - Cuppajo Ken 2012/06/15 23:10:50
+4Your suggestion would seem the most logical way to go, and be the most effective at knocking Obama's dick into the dirt. I support your suggestion.reply -
+7My suggestion is that any foreign national in the United States, whether legally or illegally, who registers to vote and/or attempts to vote should be charged with a felony, serve a mandatory two years in prison, be deported, and be forever barred from gaining citizenship in the United States.reply - Waldorf Ken 2012/06/15 23:54:19
+4The real problem is that Chicano citizens are sympathetic to their former countrymen. Reportedly a great many maintain dual citizenship and actually travel back and forth, voting in both countries. Obama is winning votes from legitimate citizens/voters.reply -
+2It is true that many are, but not all. However, if Republicans do come out adamantly against Obama's action he will use it against them. It is a blade that cuts both ways, though. Back when he was trying to get the Dream Act passed nearly 70% of voters were against it, which is why even a Democratic congress voted it down. A lot of those who were against it will be angered by this arrogant unilateral action he's taken.reply - Waldorf Ken 2012/06/16 00:07:59
+4The focus will need to be on Obama's assuming the power to do this without Congress and especially without popular opinion.. There doesn't need to be an argument about the substance of illegal immigration.reply -
