Obama: 'If You've Got a Business, You Didn't Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen'

I think I'm a little behind on this; unfortunately I didn't see it until now. This is absolutely disgusting and insane.

Wrong! Small businesses made it happen in spite of all the barriers put in place by the government. In fact the Obama administration recently destroyed about 1,000 small businesses on behalf of corrupt big business.

I am a small business owner and this infuriated me. I own a small store and I started it with my own money, I had saved myself and without debt or credit was able to build a successfull yet small business......Unfortunately I didn't have Affirmative Action to "Give me a hand" me and my husband did it all on our own with our own money our own blood, sweat and tears...and screw you Obama to say that someone else gave that to me.....

I'm tired of listening to that poor pass off for a president. Whether someone helped you get there or not: it's your business, you should get the credit whether you like it or not.

It's absolutely true that the ingenuity and persistence of those involved are what make small businesses thrive, but it's also true that corrupt big businesses can thank government loopholes and usually (though not always) huge inheritances for their success. Perhaps that was the sentiment Obama tried (and failed) to articulate.

Well yes, big business relies on big government to survive and big business is used as the power base in a way for big government.

He is so full of it! If a business gets off the ground today, it is in spite of Government rules and regulations! It's determination, a good idea, a business plan (either in the mind or written down) and being in the right place at the right time. Government regulations only make it harder to start a business today.

Obama's buddy RFK Jr got $1.4 BILLION US tax dollars from the stimulus. Those dollars belonged to the US taxpayer, yet Obama gave it away to Kennedy with no accountability. Solyndra was another marketing disaster by this president. There are many, many more.

When he runs out of US taxpayer dollars, that's when they'll be coming after your IRA and CD's.

That moment is right around the corner.

We can thank government for building the infrastructure that allows all business to develop and succeed. Small business didn't build the roads. Small business doesn't supply electricity, water and gas.
It was the government with their grants and tax subsidies that make research and development possible.
This statement has been taken out of context, look at the entire quote. Government doesn't make business thrive, but they make it possible for business to thrive.

Actually if you look at the first long distance paved road it was created by private business not by government. Similar is true with utilities. We don't need government for that and in fact government gets in the way of innovation by picking specific businesses to monopolize the market.

Big government only helps big business after all. http://politicoid.blogspot.co...

If utilities weren't regulated, only the wealthy would be able to afford it. And government is responsible for paying for the paving of roads in the country. Do you really think small business set up and paid for the interstate freeway system?

Actually regulations support big business while destroying small business. Your notion that big business would only sell to the rich is absurd. (# of sales * price) - cost = profit. It's that simple. Sure you might be able to sell one of something that costs $100 to produce for $1,000 and make a $900 profit off of it, but if you can sell 10 of the same thing at $200 then you make a $1,000 profit.

Oil companies seem to set prices according to how much they can milk out of people. I believe if there were no government regulations, the utility companies would set prices according to income. Why is it California pays over 4 bucks a gallon for gas, yet the midwest is paying 3 and the very poor states in the south are under 3 bucks? I really believe they charge whatever they think they can get away with.

Just goes to show that Obama does NOT believe in the American. He believes that we as citizens should be entirely dependent upon the government. "You can't do anything as a person. You need Marxism!"

The only thing Obama knows about economics is what he learned from Marxism.

Marxism divides this nation into classes. That is not American.
Marxism demonizes the rich. That is not American.
Marxism penalizes productivity and rewards sloth. That is not American.
Marxism takes from those that do and gives to those that won't. That is not Marxism.

Obama needs to quit lecturing to the productive segment of our society and start preaching to the entitlement demanding segment.

It's not Marxism, it's crony capitalism and more improtantly authoritarian elitism that's destroying the middle class. Both parties are responsible for it.

Yes that's great and all but if you think the Republicans are any different or that it's true marxism then you're greatly mistaken. First off, Marx clearly stated that the change would happen from the ground up not from the top down which is what Obama is doing. Obama, Bush, the Democrats and the Republicans are all destroying the middle class in order to strengthen their hold on the rest of society.

And how is destroying the middle class helpful in getting a "hold on the rest of society"?
How is changing the middle class to a poor class enable that 'hold'?
And what is the purpose of the 'hold'?

Because the middle class is the wall between the elites and the poor. The middle class has enough power base and wealth to keep the elites in check as long as there are enough of them; the Republicans and Democrats are quickly decreasing the number of middle class Americans and therefore are crushing the opposition.
  • Cognito22 kir 2012/07/16 15:05:24

Resources, money, production capabilities. The middle class has the money and time to actually work against the elites; the poor have to spend all their time just getting by. The middle class demands more freedom from the elites and as a result the poor also gain more freedom.

This is nothing new. Guilds are a good example of how the merchant class took power from the elites. Study more history.

I've studied both history and economics. Guilds and bartering are not limited to the dark ages but are useful in any period of history where trades exist. We have moved too far away from trades and rely too heavily on mass production from mega corporations.

Guilds are simply organizations of small business owners that have in the past protected us from an oppressive government and can do the same today.

Look at his policies; he is another Obama.

    1. Raised taxes
    2. Created a program like PPACA with the help of the progressive Ted Kennedy
    3. Supports global cap and trade
    4. Used taxpayer money to bet on green energy programs.

No, he led the useful idiots down the road of a series of statements to draw that final conclusion.
And the idiots in the crowd were yelling, "Yeh, right on!"

Yes, society does need a degree of socialism financed by taxes to run public works.
And the 'rich' already fund that socialism through income taxes.

Beating the horse that pulls the cart is counter-productive.
