Obama Creating African-American Education Office: Do Races Deserve Separate Education?

President Obama announced an election-year executive order of creating a special office to help black education. AP reports: Obama is announcing his election-year initiative Wednesday night in a speech to the civil rights group the National Urban League as he seeks to rally black voters. Aides say his executive order, to be signed Thursday, will set a goal of producing "a more effective continuum" of programs for African-American students.
Civil Rights leaders like Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and groups like the NAACP fought the battle for racial equality in America decades ago -- and they won. The American justice system denied segregation and forced equal protection under the law.

Wikipedia outlines a major case and the end of "separate but equal" laws in regard to education: In Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), attorneys for the NAACP referred to the phrase "equal but separate" used in Plessy v. Ferguson as a custom de jure racial segregation enacted into law.
The Supreme Court of the United States wrote in rejection of "separate but equal":We conclude that, in the field of public education, the doctrine of "separate but equal" has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are, by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Should government create separate education offices to manage different races?

    BOGUS QUESTION ALERT!

How does "creating a special office to help black education" relate AT ALL to "do races deserve separate education"?

Do you people take classes to learn how to ask "push-poll" questions, building a false assumption into the question to get the answers you want? OR are you just too dumb to know that your question doesn't make sense?

Black student lag far behind in school success. Creating an office to find a way to deal with a specific problem is NOT creating "separate education offices to manage different races".

You take a single idea and run in the direction of the most exaggerated, reactionary extreme. That's destructive, not constructive. ddrfttttk

Is Barry going to set up a separate but equal education system? WOW!
Why did I ride a school bus all across town in the 1970s if the first black president wants special schools for black kids?

Unless I've missed some vital information pertaining to how any other ethnicity thinks and learns. It may have to do with demographics and The Dangers of Definition as well. I would love to hear the explanation. I can think of so many possible reasons. They don't really justify it,but they would be interesting to hear explained.

Only if they want their achievements to be diluted. I.E. if someone from a special group gets hired, people assume it was just because they were part of that special group. It totally discounts the hard work they put in to get there. Let's be honest, people don't achieve great things by getting hand outs from others. Why lessen the rewards for those who just do the work?

I hope you all know that he's not trying to segregate us though. In the hood/projects kids are made fun of for being smart or getting a good education. If you're smart they feel threatened and think that the smart child is trying to "be better than them." So he's trying to lessen that so that African-Americans from the ghetto won't be scared to get a proper education and get out of the hood.

So why have there never been Italian, Irish, Asian, Mexican, Russian, etc.? OK, so I am getting tired of the prejudice here. There are black beauty pageants, black colleges, etc., you do not see that for anything else. Isn't this a double standard?

This is what has been driving me absolutely crazy. We are fighting back and forth. liberal vs conservative, rich vs poor. black vs white. We are 1st and foremost American. The politicians/ parties are the problem. They pull the strings and we dance. We need to start cleaning house.

    To answer your question .

"What if we weren't a divided nation? What could we accomplish?"
    Great things.

Imagine the good that even 10% of the money wasted on politics was spent on anything else. Feeding/educating the poor or repair the badly needed infrastructure. Instead these clowns spend it on trying to make each other look bad.

This should be something that is taught at the college level and people should have the right to decide what they want to do. What is he going to do about the hispanic or asian students?

Or Indians. I guess White poor people who are from dysfunctional families are intelligent & creative enough to rise above their challenges, unlike Black people who must have "special" help.

The black people I know have done very well without this new department. I have friends where the wife was an attorney and the husband was an OB-GYN full Colonel in the Air Force. Mr. Keyes and Mr. West seem to be doing okay also.

That's correct, Black people don't need a special program. It is their President & the Black leaders he listens to that apparently believe they need "special" attention. It's as if no White people come from poor & dysfunctional families & environment, or that there are no other minorities other than Black. This is truly discrimination & IMO a waste of government funds at a time when we are in economic crisis.

Very well said. Maybe we need to start protesting. Our constitution states "general welfare" this does not mean special treatment for minority groups.

[...]The Black leaders are hypocrites . . . as I've always stated, they don't want equality, they want revenge. Equality is evil anyway. Even in Heaven we won't be equal.

Also, isn't this whole thing illegal? What about other minorities?

What I mean is that Romney is going to take away the option of abortion. I honestly believe that abortion is murder but I know that people will get their abortions done one way or another. I don't want to see in the news a teenage girl who was pregnant received an illegal abortion and bled to death or anything among those lines. I also don't like the idea of running the government based on a religion. He has very good intentions because he believes that he's helping but it's not going to work out. Also I'm not a sock puppet. I don't allow my parent's views to affect mine. When they wanted Obama I wanted Hillary at age nine. Although I'm young I enjoy politics very much thank you.
