President Obama announced an election-year executive order of creating a special office to help black education.
AP reports:
Obama is announcing his election-year initiative Wednesday night in a speech to the civil rights group the National Urban League as he seeks to rally black voters. Aides say his executive order, to be signed Thursday, will set a goal of producing "a more effective continuum" of programs for African-American students.
Civil Rights leaders like Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and groups like the NAACP fought the battle for racial equality in America decades ago -- and they won. The American justice system denied segregation and forced equal protection under the law.
Wikipedia outlines a major case and the
end of "separate but equal" laws in regard to education:
In Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), attorneys for the NAACP referred to the phrase "equal but separate" used in Plessy v. Ferguson as a custom de jure racial segregation enacted into law.
The Supreme Court of the United States wrote in rejection of "separate but equal":
We conclude that, in the field of public education, the doctrine of "separate but equal" has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are, by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Should government create separate education offices to manage different races?
Why did I ride a school bus all across town in the 1970s if the first black president wants special schools for black kids?
Who's the racist now?
To answer your question .
"What if we weren't a divided nation? What could we accomplish?"
Great things.
Imagine the good that even 10% of the money wasted on politics was spent on anything else. Feeding/educating the poor or repair the badly needed infrastructure. Instead these clowns spend it on trying to make each other look bad.
That's what the liberals claim conservatives want to do.
Also, isn't this whole thing illegal? What about other minorities?
