Obama Cites Tax Dodger Marc Anthony to Push Higher Taxes

Evil 1 2012/06/27 12:19:14

Tuesday, President Obama attacked Mitt Romney and Republican lawmakers for opposing increased taxes on the rich. The President referred to himself and singer Marc Anthony, who performed at the event, as examples of those individuals who would ideally pay more under his plan:

Governor Romney disagrees with my vision. That's what democracy is all about: we choose. His allies in Congress disagree with my vision. They've got a different approach. Neither of them will endorse any policy that asks folks like me or Marc Anthony to pay even a nickel more in taxes.

However, Anthony may not be so eager to contribute more to the Federal Treasury. The singer has been cited for millions in unpaid taxes multiple times over the years:

According to a New York judgments and liens filing dating back to March 29, Anthony (under his real name, Marco Antonio Muniz), was hit with a tax lien on some property he owns in Long Island. But that's not the only time he's failed to pay the government its due.

The Latin popster also had a lien filed against the same piece of real estate in December of 2009, this one for $1.6 million, bringing the total amount owed to the IRS to a whopping $3.4 million.

...

In 2007, the crooner paid $2.5 million in back taxes to federal and state goverments for failing to file returns on nearly $15.5 million in income over a five-year period.

If Obama is so eager to see an increase in tax revenue, he's more than allowed to give a head start and contribute extra--there's nothing stopping him; the IRS will gladly accept it.

I'm not against a fair tax system, but what we have now is not fair and whenever there is a push to make it more fair by increasing the taxes on the rich, that increase ends up on the middle class.

And the fact that Marc Anthony hasn't paid all his taxes is a reason to let the 1% continue to rape our economy? I agree that anyone who doesn't pay the taxes they owe ought to be punished for it. But that has nothing to do with tax policy, and I think you know that.

PP you constant (perhaps purposely) miss the point. It was Obama that brought up Marc Anthony; YOU tell him it has nothing to do with policy - he hasn't listened to me.

And PP, you are aware that the top 1% already pay 37% of the tax revenue. And the top 50% of earners pay 97% of the tax burden. So who is it that's getting raped again?

Maybe the folks who aren't paying any taxes at all could show a little gratitude or at least stop bitching!

I think it's you that misses the point. All the President said is that someone at the income level of someone like Marc Anthony should be taxed at a higher rate than they currently are. And he's right. The fact that Mr. Anthony hasn't paid his taxes has nothing to do with what tax rate he should be paying at. I am aware that the top 1% pay around 37%. They should be paying about 90%. They can afford it. The rest of the country can't.

The folks who aren't paying any taxes at all aren't paying taxes because they are too poor to be able to survive as it is. They should be grateful that Republicans have sent millions of American jobs to China? They should be thankful that unions that protect the rights of actual working people have been under constant assault for the last 30 years, resulting in massive suppression of wage gains by working people (while the richest Americans' income has risen about 400% over the same period)? They should be happy that Congressional Republicans are blocking an American Jobs Act that will create another 3 million American jobs?

90% tax rate? Well, that should provide adequate incentive to push the rest of big business out of the country. And, as a bonus keep entrepreneurs from developing new ideas. I mean, what';s the point if government would take 90%.

By the way PP, it's this kind of progressive crap that pushed business out of America in the first place.

And by the way, it's been the unions fueling the democrat party for decades. Shaking down their membership for dues (and recently special assessments) that are passed on to the democrat party. All for favorable treatment in legislation. It was the same kind of thing that the citizens finally realized in Wisconsin recently when Governor Scott walker prevailed over the unions and beat the recall effort.

Blatent lies and deception don't work so well any more PP. People are getting wise to the progressive trickery.

Have Obama the liar and thief pay higher taxes, first.

The President is neither a liar nor a thief. If Congress will stop obstructing everything and raise taxes, the President will pay more taxes.

Just more proof that he is totally clueless and out of touch with reality. It also proves their is no honor among thieves.

Actually, it seems to demonstrate that the only one clueless and out of touch with reality is you. How does the fact that one person has not paid all of his taxes have the slightest bit to do with tax policy?

Because for him to use a tax evader as a spokesman to push for higher taxes shows he is clueless. And you fit right in there with him when you try to make excuses for his failure. But then again based on your posts as of late I would say you are more than likely delusional as opposed to clueless.
