I believe the contract was removed from the proposed budget as part of the tea baggers' cuts they boasted of before the final appropriations were sent to the Senate from the House. Did you miss this part of the story? The baggers took special care to cut spending in California to show their contemp for a state that has two Democrat Senators.

Both the U.S. Government Accountability Office and the Department of Agriculture’s Inspector General have been critical of the Forest Service’s handling of the matter. All of this has been known to the Obama administration since it took the reins in 2009.

You are suggesting that a Federal Agency actually asked for it's budget to be reduced and it's assets diminished? That would likely be an event worthy of headlines in the WSJ and NYTImes, wouldn't it? Of course, that didn't happen. From the day that Obama took office the Party of No and tea baggers have been screaming for "reduced Federal spending". Well, here was a reduction of a seemingly obscure and unnecessary expenditure, and best of all, it was money that could be removed from California, that home of two Democratic Senators and a company right in the Capitol City, Sacramento.

Appropriations bills originate in and are the responsibility of the House of Representatives, where Rep. Boehner presides. If budget cuts aren't desirable, then
he should not demand them, and tell the tea baggers to go home.

After months of dire red flags from a diverse group of politicians ranging from Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry and Arizona GOP Sen. Jon Kyl to Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden and New Mexico Democratic Sen. Jeff Bingaman, President Obama finally signed emergency legislation last week to expedite the contracting process. Obama will borrow planes from Canada and provide $24 million for new aerial tanker contracts.

Damn, there we go again, spending taxpayer's money on things to make Government larger and more intrusive into our lives. Where are all these
RWNJs, the "patriots" who can "take care of ourselves" without the Govy?
How many of them are out there on the fire lines in Colorado and Arizona
today? Thousands, tens of thousands? Oh, oh, maybe I miscounted?

Lesson learned? NO, the Party of No doesn't learn from experience else
it would be pleading to escape from the clutches of the Reagan Banks and
the destructive "conservative agenda" that pillages, plunders, and prevents
having enough money with which to pay for the things we need, such as
aerial tankers. Just a few days ago I read of the "positive numbers" posted
by makers of private jet aircraft, reflecting that corporations were once again
ordering great numbers of private jets to fly the CEOs and families to their
homes around the world. Isn't there a story entwined here? While the fires
burn for lack of tankers, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America have Gulfstream
550s on order, at a cost of about $60 Million each, just to fly the CEOs to Aspen
and Boca Raton, maybe to Paris for a shopping trip for the wife and kids, stop in
Denmark for a day of skiing.

If you see something wrong with these pictures of what we are, maybe you will give some thought as to how we can change our priorities to best serve the 99.8% who don't have access to private jets?

Where there’s smoke swirling over Team Obama there are usually flames of incompetence, cronyism and ideological zealotry at the source. The ultimate rescue mission? Evacuating Obama’s wrecking crew from the White House permanently. November can’t come soon enough.

They need the airplane money for Mooshel's vacations.

There is a 747 sitting on the ground that can do the work of more than 10 regular tankers. The forest service will not hire them.
