Neocons began in the Democratic Party and called themselves Liberals interchangeably with Neocon until switching political parties. It explains why Obama never opposed Bush as a US Senator but instead voted for everything Bush wanted even on issues passed through cloture and when Bush didn't have enough Republican support... Obama was the one who got him enough Democrat votes on many occasions. So the fact Obama has continued Bush era policies isn't difficult to understand when you research the history of the Neocons as they began as Liberals who parted from them during the Great Depression. It is also why there seemed to be more Liberals before the 60's as the Neocons often counted themselves as Liberals no different than how Progressives today include themselves in polls asking if you are a Liberal or Conservative... without the Progressives, Liberals in the Democratic Party today might not even represent 5% of the voting population in this country... and Progressives are Progressive Communists explaining what happens when Socialists and Communists abandon their groups and parties when they collapse as we know they become Democrats because they tell us they are, but then they began calling themselves Progressives and when that wasn't getting them anywhere they all began calling themselves Liberals interchangeably with Progressives.

Bush we know was a Neocon but then, we have Obama working with Bush as if they were both in the same political party apart from Liberals and Conservatives... they both belong to the same political ideology. Obama's voting record is overwhelmingly rightwing but as a black man, he likely saw gaining political power easier in the Democratic Party. As such, he told the Liberals what they wanted to hear and voted in favor of issues Neocons to this day share in common with Liberals... but to gain the support of rightwing Democrats took results which explains his rightwing voting record because all it takes from him is lip service to win the leftwing votes as they can't see a black man as anything but a victim so they forgive him of all the times he's stabbed them in the back.
