Obama and the Democratic Congress WANT 5% of YOUR 401K to Fund Social Security- what say you?

You!

The Democratic Congress along with Obama have a plan to Do Away with the Pay roll tax of Social Security. In its place- they want to take 5% of YOUR 401K deduction from your paycheck- and use that money to fund the Social Security Program. YOUR MONEY- YOUR INDIVIDUAL RETIREMENT MONEY.
I don't know about YOU- But currently I only have 1% of my pay taken out for MY 401K. I can't afford more taken out- let alone being forced to take 5%- just to give it to the GOVERNMENT- to SPREAD to OTHERS.

The democratic congress's irrational support of Fannie and Freddie, the effects of governmental interference through affordable housing initiatives, and good old pork politics already took a big bite out of my 401k. There aint nothing left boys go back to trying to balance the budget.

I agree that Social Security needs changes, but I am unsure what the answer is. I know there is so much messed up with economics right now, I am surprised they haven't declared marshall law and Obama just declares himslef ruler of the world. Times are not good right now......

I know they are still working on this 'idea.' One thing is to roll all the 401(k) accounts over into a government controlled entity. UK did this under Maggie Thatcher. The sad thing is, the program ended and the money disappeared. Congress has been using the annual 'excess' soc. sec. paid in for years. Had they been 'saving' it for the baby boomers' retirements coming up, we wouldn't be in this shape today. I sure don't trust Congress with my 401(k)!

It is my money. I would like to have my social security contributions to invest myself. I guarantee I could do a better job with my money than the government can. The government has screwed up Medicaid, the prescription drug plan, social security and more. Basically they have screwed up every program I can think of why should we let them have more? They need less control not more!!

I'm gonna be glad if they only take away 5%. I think they are coming after the whole thing. How else are they going to save their butts when it comes to social security. That is my number one fear of Obama being elected with a supermajority of Democrats. My Thrift Savings Plan is from the federal government and they are probably going after that for sure. I can take early retirement but can't really afford to. That could be a consideration. If they come after it I might have to retire to save it.

ya - BUT only 5%- I currently only have 1% taken out- the government would force all
to take at least 5% out- hence- LESSER Pay Check for ME- and Many Many Others.
Thought Obama wanted to GIVE ME MORE MONEY IN MY PAYCHECK.

Yeah, ohcritter, but I have to have more taken out, I currently have 10% and need to go higher. I just got my papers for early retirement because they are trying to get people to retire voluntarily because we are losing so much money. They aren't really offering any incentives yet. I can't get social security until I'm 62 but when I get 30 years which is at age 60 I get a supplement to replace social security. I know most people today don't have that opportunity but I can't go without it. I don't want to retire to have to work a lower paying job. I don't want my Thrift Savings Plan involved in social security. We know what a tragedy that would be.

It's just like his tax plan, first it was $250,000 then it was $200,000 and then Biden said $150,000 before deductions. He's going to play with the percentages the same way too!

I have an IRA and I'll just have to roll my 401 into it!My pension will go there too in a few!

I spent my 401K in 1992 when I lost a job I had for 16 years. I used it for retraining and supporting my family.

I left a job after 18 and 1/2 years to go to another job because there was an surge of work going overseas due to NAFTA agreement signed by the Clintons and I took some out and was taxed 40 % and then I rolled the rest into an IRA !
