    Hell, I've know about them for years. I also know that the government has been putting people from maximum security prisons in them to make sure they are escape proof. They are detention camps just like the ones from WW2. If you resist in any way they plan to put you in one. When police and military come around after martial law is declared, they will want to search your home and take stored food, extra clothing, stored medicines, guns and ammo. You can submit and let them have everything, you can resist and be arrest and go into a fema camp, or you can really resist and kill until the threat is gone or you get killed. I'll take option #3.

    He never mentions FEMA? Also his detention refers to Guantanamo prisoners. Not an abitrary decision to imprison ANYone for "nothing". His whole speech is here http://www.nytimes.com/2009/0...     This clip doesn't show him explicitly avowing the existence of FEMA camps in particular (the ones we've known about for years), but it's still a jarringly bold proclamation of the government's power to indefinitely detain people for...nothing.

    I may not be a fan of Rachel Maddow, but I'm heartened that she not only saw this for what it was but took such pains to drive home the unconstitutionality of the position, the double-speak used regarding ad-hoc legal language obfuscating this, and the sheer scope of just how extreme the policy is. I just wish people like her would hammer this message home during election seasons and emphasize the similarity of major party candidates on such a crucial issue.

    The policy itself isn't new of course, and it's been expanded upon time and again with more and more legislation (most recently the NDAA), but it's still pretty amazing hearing Obama talk about it so openly.

    I was dumbfounded when I watched the TV clip, I just shows now much disregard Obama has for the Constitution. Also I almost had heartache when it was broadcasted on MSNBC which only reports positive reports of NOMAMA. Could it be some of his supporters are finally getting smart?
