Obama Admin Allots $1.8 Million to Place Women in Carpentry, Welding Jobs?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/07/05 18:48:21
The U.S. Labor Department announced last week that the Obama administration will be providing nearly $2 million in grants to place women in “nontraditional occupations,” such as carpentry, welding, and masonry.

"Apprenticeship programs are effective pipelines into growing industries. But too often, these programs are not as accessible to women,” said Labor Secretary Hilda Solis in a June 26 press release.

“The federal grants announced today will better connect women with apprenticeships, helping them to gain skills in fields that offer long-term career opportunities."

Waste of money, it's been tried before and fails time and again. Then experienced, qualified people with the ability to perform and excel are turned away.

If this is anything like the "green jobs" fiasco, we should see what......like 20 jobs from this $1.8 Million?

Obama gets off on wasting money. Let the market dictate the workplace social engineering is a waste of time. Mexicans already have taken those jobs, Obama better be careful or he'll lose the illegal vote.

We have hired women welders for years. Nothing was keeping them out of this work but themselves.

I live in Tampa and we're also a right to work state so there aren't that many. However, we've had many of the beer and can industries that were unionized. The simple fact was that you couldn't get one of the jobs unless you were related to or knew someone working there in key positions. Most are shut down now but that was the case in the height of the unions. The unions have a notorious history of racism also. "Look for the Union Label" used to mean that it was made by white men.

The best welding teacher I ever had was female. She made it look like sewing and her work was really pretty - almost artwork.

Just the same, I don't think it's necessary for the government to promote women taking hot, miserable jobs.

WTF... Women that were interested in those occupations have been working in them for the last 40+ years!
