Now that Osama Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, where he has been hiding for quite a while.....Should we get the heck out of Afghanistan?

Wasn't the whole premise of the war in Afghanistan, based on supposition that they were hiding Bin Laden?

Remove all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan now. Bring em home for the rest they truly deserve. I know of folks that have been on 2-4 rotations to BOTH countries over the last several years. Our armed services folks are plumb wore out and the equipment is in similar sorry shape too.

If we built anything of value over there in those far, far away lands, blow those assets up as well. Buildings, barracks, airfields, vehicles, etc that if not destroyed, will eventually be used in efforts to destroy us.

Oh and Congress and POTUS, don't be trying to gut the military budget to finance YOUR welfare entitlement utopia at the expense of our military personnel. You DO know what I'm talking about.

It is a war we cannot win and thus we need an excuse to declare victory. OBL was the reason we invaded so OBL is the reason we will give in leaving. Pray to whatever power you know that the Pakis do not fall and things will be not real bad.

i feel like we shouldve left after he was killed. but i feel like if that happened then the taliban would have caused massive chaos in the middle east.

But we have long known he was not in Afghanistan. It is hard to connect the two at this point.

Stop the war effort yes. But with the mineral deposits found, and an avenue to disrupt the opium trade? We are not leaving. Plus it is a closer striking position to Russia and China. That is why they hate us being there so much.

Now that Osama is dead -- we should start making preparations to get out of the middle east entirely as far as I'm concerned.

We simply cannot continuing our attempt to track down every third rate rebel with a vendetta against America. And I believe we can protect America much better from here at home than over there.

Not one more American life should be lost and not one more dime spent. There will always be terrorists with an agenda to harm America. That is precisely why we should protect America from right here at home.

It is a good place from which to keep tabs on Pakistan next door. I believe it is also to be the home of a permanent US airbase, replacing our regional strategic base in Saudi Arabia.

While I would love for us to be out of Afghanistan, the problem there is the taliban, and we are supposed to be training the not taliban to look after things. Which may or may not actually happen. Given how corrupt the government is there, I'd be surprised if we are successful.

It's pointless to be there for changing the culture. A blank stare is the best we can hope for. Seventy percent of the people can't read or write. The average IQ must be in the 70s too.

A treasure trove of minerals and rare earth metals, now that is a reason to stay. Afghanistan is the mother-load for materials to be used in future and green technologies. An army will be needed to protect the mining activities.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com...

If we leave for political or moral reasons, then we will have to make some sacrifices on the Green Transition and probably have to drill for more oil in the US and stay with our oil based system.

nooooo!!! we werent there for OBL we where there to stop the taliban from a) growing huge amount of opium which was heading to the us and the uk b) killing the natives and taking all their farmland to grow opium and c) close the terrorist training facilities that are there. so no sorry the brits and the us are in there for the long term this changes nothing and if u think we can go to a country blow half of it up then pull out before we have helped rebuild it and train the people then u are worst then OBL himself!!!!

I am not sure about Afghanistan but in the Viet Nam war the CIA ran the drugs to fund their operations. Happened again in Central America. Maybe all that opium is part of our current plan as well.

If you think killing OBL ends the war on terror, you're naive.
Afghanistan and the Taliban still pose a major threat, the war against terror is more likely to escalate than subside.
These folks fight in independent cells specifically for cases like this, the organization as a whole can move the agenda forward regardless if they lose any one piece.
OBL was a symbolic figure more than anything, still glad the POS is dancin' with Davey Jones.

We are spending 2 billion dollars of American taxpayer money a week there. It's time to leave them rebuild their own country. We are not preventing terrorist attacks by being there. What prevents terrorist attacks are good old fashioned police work.

We also need to stop funding Pakistan since they obviously knew that bin Ladin was there.

When the mission is accomplished, which I assume was "getting Saadam" in Iraq and "getting Osama" in Afghanistan, and which has no purpose whatsoever in Libya, it is time to pack the bags and come home.

As always, it has cost us far more than we had lost in the beginning.

Obama living in Pakistan for 7 years while we are still in Afghanistan wasting money in the tune of 3 billion dollars a year just because / Money that we need to grow our economy and our own peoples best welfare as a country. They take away our tax dollars from WE THE PEOPLE against our own will and give it freely to Pakistan all the while saying that they can not sustain the debt of our social security....There is something seriously wrong with this picture. Can you figure it out.

I was watching C-Span today the top 5 Middle east recipients of almost 12 billion dollars of our American tax money....what is 1% of our budget a year being our budget is 1.4 trillion....over 100 billion given out yearly against our will. while they disregard the IOUs in the social security fund. No darling they need to redirect that money into the IOUs that lie ignored in our trust fund if they are going to borrow the money for countries out side of the United States than We The People should demand to repay us what was
    stolen.

" ...we are still in Afghanistan wasting money in the tune of 3 billion dollars a year just because / Money that we need to grow our economy and our own peoples best welfare as a country."

Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying here - I thought you were referring to the money we borrow in order to keep our presence in Afghanistan - not the tax dollars that we use to send to the Middle East. Yes, if you're referring to our tax dollars that are flying out of the country, I agree with you.
