Veterans Day is an official United States holiday honoring armed service veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11th.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.

- Jim 2012/11/12 05:51:59America Thanks You+1Your welcome. I'm a Vietnam Veteran and Nam Brothers and I were treated as a pariah. WE were called baby killers, spat upon and treated with disdain. It was only a few years ago that we started to get recognized for our service. Any military member returning from a war zone should be treated with respect. Don't ever disrespect a veteran in front of me if you what to remain healthy. Also, treat with respect those who serve and have served without being in a war zone. They supported us who were in a war zone and also protected civilians here. I don't know what compels a person to enter the military. It must be love of God and Country.reply

Know that although I will never truly understand the sacrifices you make for me, I do know I can live my life the way I do because you make them. Thanks. (and a shout out specifically to my daddy, who I miss every single day...).reply

+1I honestly don't know what impels us to enter the military. Perhaps it's love of God and Country. Or maybe that we feel deep inside us the need to pay back for the freedoms we have. Being a veteran, I can't answer why. The only thing I can say is I proudly served.reply - Delicio... Jim 2012/11/12 06:02:39

+1Your welcome and yes you should thank the police, firemen, etc. They do a dangerous job to protect us here. I don't think I would go into a burning building.reply - Leslie Goudy 2012/11/11 23:43:35America Thanks You+5For once no negative answers. My Husband is a Disabled Vietnam Vet and we went to a special Church service today where we sang the National Hymn. We then went to the Vet Home and listened to a Medley of songs sang by a beautiful young lady named Mary Baur and then we went to Applebee's for our free appreciation dinner and tomorrow there will be a Veteran's day Parade in Jackson Mo. Thank you for askingreply
