Not to diminish a tragedy but I feel I must clarify: The Congresswoman who was shot is not Jewish

Giffords, 40, was raised "mixed" by a Christian Scientist mother and Jewish father, but said that after a visit to Israel in 2001, she had decided she was Jewish only. She attended services at a local Reform synagogue. Judaism goes through the mother, not the father, and she is not Jewish according to accepted Jewish Law that has been intact for 3,323 years.

You know, I don't agree with that. Jewish law may say one thing, but genetics say another, and actually, in ancient times, Judaism used to be passed by the father, not the mother. Because if this were true, my father wouldn't be Jewish.

Furthermore, many, many Jews are reform (including my family), so who cares? I think this post was in poor taste.

those women converted and observed Torah better than anyone observes it today, which is why they are Jewish...our tribe goes through the father, so your sarcasm is really not necessary here, no one changed anything. Oh and by the way just so you know the laws were not binding on Jews until Har Sinai, so maybe go back and reread the Jewish texts before bringing that nonsense on here.

Do you think Avraham, Yitzhak, and Yaakov just married stam goyim without any sort of conversion or acceptance of Torah? that is just not the case...no matter anyone standing in front of Har Sinai was now bound by the Torah, including those erev ravim that had no business being Jews, and who's curse has come down through the generations...but they are still Jews too.

A teaching in Devorim 7:3 is used by us to show how only a child born from a Jewish mother is to be considered a Jew, though he might have had a gentile father. There, we find the prohibition about taking the Canaanites in marriage, viz., "You shall not consummate marriages with them, nor shall you give your daughter to his son or take his son for your daughter, since he will turn away your son from following me." By looking very closely and diacritically at the wording of the text, it says "...since he (the Canaanite father) will turn a...

There, we find the prohibition about taking the Canaanites in marriage, viz., "You shall not consummate marriages with them, nor shall you give your daughter to his son or take his son for your daughter, since he will turn away your son from following me." By looking very closely and diacritically at the wording of the text, it says "...since he (the Canaanite father) will turn away your son (i.e. the child born to your Jewish daughter) from following me." Here, we see that G-d still reckons the child to be Jewish by calling him, "YOUR SON" - id est, even though such unions were forbidden. G-d calls him "YOUR SON," implying that he is still an Israelite because he was born from a JEWISH MOTHER. However, the opposite is not true. The Torah does not say, "...for she (the Canaanite mother) will turn away your son." In this case, the child would no longer be considered your son, but rather a gentile (Compare Yevamoth 76a; Numbers Rabba 19:3).

I know many Jews are reform I know a few. However it doesn't change the fact if anybody from a non-Jewish mother is reform it will not make them Jewish.

Does that mean the Zionist didn't try and have her killed or did they?

Wikipedia list her religion as Judaism.
and everyone knows that everything Wiki says is 100% perfectly accurate.

No its some crazy guy that thinks that Jews control the government. You are only Jewish if you are born to a Jewish mother or an orthodox convert.

    I was joking.
    but
A Gentile or a mixed birth child can convert to Judaism.
If she was practicing Judaism what would you call her?

As all people with hearts are, why should people be described as that which they are not? Do you know how sickening it gets when people make Jewish people of those who are not?

I care and it seems to me the problem that people have attitude that nobody cares. The world would be a bigger mess than it is if everybody had a nobody cares attitude.

As a foot not the make of the blog E. Cohen from Jewishsidetick.com also seems to care enough to make the blog.

I know I sound very uncaring and even insensitive. That is the least of my intentions. I just don't see why they should make people Jewish who are not. She is not considered Jewish under Jewish law because her mother is not Jewish and she has not gone through an orthodox conversion.

At the moment in Israel there is a huge debate going on as to who is Jewish and who is not.

I don't know what she is, a reform Jew.. Reform is a very new form of 'Judaism' they have women 'rabbis' etc you don't even have to believe in God - how can that be Judaism?

    Are you Jewish?
You seem to be troubled by what is believed about them.

The reason there are female Rabbi's now is because of a very interesting and solid line of scripture. A very brilliant woman debated with the Rabbi's about why only men could be a Rabbi. They only had "tradition" and no scripture to support it. So, she then presented to the group all the scripture that shows that we are all females in the presence of God. God of the Torah is the masculine and all mankind is the feminine. God wants to penetrate humanity with his love. After they analyzed the scriptures they realized that in the Holy of Holy's there were no males only females and that the tradition was spiritually pointless.

    You are most definitely Jewish,
You remind me of the fierce conquerors of Jericho.
And it would bother you if she was labeled incorrectly.
    Since you are very precise.
