No Truth to Obama "Job Gains" Reports - How the Obama Administration Lies With Statistics!

"There are three kinds of lies -- lies, damned lies, and statistics." The quote was attributed to Benjamin Disraeli, the 19th century British Prime Minister by Mark Twain. As Dick Morris points out, the quote never had more accurate application than the phony unemployment figures the Obama administrations Bureau of Labor Statistics keeps releasing:
No Truth To January Job Gains
By Dick Morris on March 14, 2012

Published on TheHill.com on March 13, 2012

entire claim that the economy is reviving is based on phony numbers and
rigged statistics. Nothing is more misleading than the recent
administration claims that the economy added over 200,000 jobs during
each of the past three months and that unemployment is stable at 8.3

Dr. John Hussman of
the Hussman Fund says that the claims of job gains are based entirely on
weighted figures. “Total non-farm employment in the U.S., before
seasonal adjustments, fell by 2,689,000 jobs in January.”
Then the spin
doctors at the Bureau of Labor Statistics went to work. Hussman
explains: “because it’s typical for the economy to lose a large number
of jobs after the holidays, largely in retail trade, construction and
manufacturing, the BLS estimated that the ‘normal’ seasonal decline in
employment should have been 2,932,000 jobs in January. The difference
between the two numbers … was 243,000 jobs, which was reported as an
increase in employment.”

Hussman notes that this “adjustment” in
2011 and 2012 was far more extreme than in any previous year since the
1960s. Had the standard adjustment been used, instead of the souped-up
figure BLS applied, the total number of new jobs created would be only
about 60,000 for January.

And even that might be an overestimation.

points out that “moreover, we’ve had a remarkably mild winter in the
U.S., particularly in January, and it’s clear that this has favorably
affected both construction and retail activity. Ironically, however,
nothing in the seasonal adjustment actually adjusts for this purely
seasonal effect.”

The stable-unemployment-rate fantasy is also
based on a steady decline in the number of people in the labor force,
despite population increases. The current number of people in the labor
force — the denominator in determining the unemployment rate — is the
lowest since 1981
. Economist Peter Morici writes that “if the adult
participation rate [in the labor force] was the same today as when Obama
became president, unemployment would be 11 percent.”

Morici also
notes that “adding adults … who say they [would] re-enter the labor
market if conditions improved and part-time workers who would prefer
full-time positions, the unemployment rate becomes 15.2 percent.
Factoring in college graduates in low skill positions, like counterwork
at Starbucks … unemployment is closer to 20 percent.”

Such is the happy math upon which the administration bases its claims of economic recovery.

which predicts election results with incredible accuracy, uses the same
survey methodology to develop its own unemployment rate and now reports
that it stands at 9.1 percent, a 0.6 percentage-point increase since
last month.

Fortunately, the American people are using their own
eyes, not Obama’s statistics, to figure out what is really going on.
Obama’s approval ratings, as measured most accurately by Gallup and
Rasmussen, show a drop from 51 percent a month or two ago to the low 40s
now. And Rasmussen shows Romney beating Obama by 4 to 6 points. At 42
percent of the vote in the trial heat, the president is facing a
crushing defeat, because the vast bulk of the undecided vote always goes
against the incumbent. [The head-to-head matchup between Romney and Obama varies from day to day - Yesterday Romney was up by three points, today they are tied.]

With gas prices surging, the economic data
will only get worse. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on
the economy predicts slow growth and higher unemployment in the near
future, and Hussman says that “overall, an economic downturn remains the
most likely prospect.”

The ability of my former Democratic
brethren at self-deception is legendary, but the current optimism about
both the economy and their chances of holding the White House and the
Senate — and regaining the House?! — is downright nuts.

WTF? Why won't they tell us the truth?
Yesterday they said unemployment dropped to 8.2%, while only 120,000 jobs were created, in a country of 300,000,000+ people. Impossible! The economic experts say you need to create 300,000-400,000 new jobs per month to break even.

Obama has the spirit of Anti-Christ in him.

The article is true in that people use statistics to lie. One thing they do is they use techniques called "tuning" and "snooping" to get the results they want:

"False positive and exaggerated results in peer reviewed scientific studies have reached epidemic proportions in recent years. The problem is rampant in economics, the social sciences and even the natural sciences, … (Professor John Ioannidis, Chaired Professor of Medicine and Director, Stanford Prevention Research Center,"

Anyone who still believes any information comes out of the white house needs to do themselves a favor and get a second reference that is not from the white house. Even the local media is being caught in lie after lie. Who can you trust any more?

WTF? Why won't they tell us the truth?
Obama is not the first to lie to us. He just has found new ways to do it. Just like the Government is always out there taking away our freedoms one by one and some applaud them. All the way back in the 1980's and before that they did not count people that drop off the unemployment after their 6 months or year ended so the unemployment numbers would drop. The Government has almost always had funny math. Not much new there. They are always trying to figure new ways to use the numbers and reformulate them. They have everything they need to give us an accurate number, but that is never going to happen.

Because they plan to do it with voter fraud . And they have to set up the con first. So that it will be believable that so many people could be stupid enough to vote for him. They are fighting voter ID so they can disenfranchise the real voters. They want to unconstitutionally allow voter fraud and make America's real vote moot.

When they tally up unemployment statistics, they don't count those whose unemployment has run out, those not eligible for unemployment, they only count those who are on unemployment.

Obama's record in office is atrocious, the only way he is going to be able to run for a second term is to lie about the numbers. The sad thing is that the Republican candidate is going to agree with these numbers rather than look like a conspiracy theorist. If the candidate just argued the facts he would trash Obama completely.

WTF? Why won't they tell us the truth?
They never have and they never will. Why? Because they believe the American Public are nothing more then a bunch of idiots! But to be fair to them, judging by the morons we keep electing, they might be on to something!

However, you are only counted as unemployed if you are collecting a full unemployment check. If your benefits run out you are not counted as unemployed. Instead they insult us all by saying you just decided to stop looking for work. Yea, thats it, we have 15 million people who don't have a dime of income and have just decided to to crawl into a corner and starve to death! How moronic is that theory?
What happens is most of these people end up on welfare or SSI, but they are still unemployed. Some take any kind of job they can working for cash on a daily basis because there are no real jobs to be had.
But what really sucks and what has been true for a long time is that every $25 an hour job we lose, its usually replaced with an $8 an hour job. But to make matters worse we still have more then 8million illegals working in this country.
So yes our govt. sucks when it comes to telling the truth, why, because we keep putting scumbags in charge!

Democrats were the main proponents against equal rights. You wouldn't enjoy your equal rights if Democrats ever got their way. Did you know the Klu Klux Klan was established by democrats to intimidate voters? During the civil war Southern Dixiecrats were the main ones opposing the end of slavery. A Republican governor in the state of Montana was the first to give women equal voting rights. Democrats voted mostly nay against the equal rights legislation in the sixties. Look it up for yourself, prove me wrong. By the way, Dr. Martin Luther King Sr. and Jr. were strong Republicans.

Last year, Ann Coulter predicted that during 2012, the media would lie about the economy supposedly getting better -- in order to help Obama get re-elected.

It seems that her prediction is coming true.

Thanks for sharing the Morris article. It should be spread far and wide, and shouted from every rooftop.

This goes along with what I have been saying for years now. The employment rate is artificially inflated due to companies downsizing. Getting rid of one full time position with full benefits in favor of 2 part time positions with little or no benefits and lower pay in preperation for the enactment of Obamacare. When companies will be forced to add people it previously would not or people that would have previously opted out.
  • Ken Uranos7 2012/04/08 00:05:11
The U-6 rate, which the media never mentions, is just over 15% right now. Instead we constantly get the "doctored" unemployment rate, counting only those still looking, ignoring those who are so discouraged they have dropped out of the job market.
