No Soup For You! Obamaville Debunks Another Obama Idea!

Prairie Wind 2011/10/27 23:19:21

by James Taranto

The New York Post has another hilarious dispatch from the People's Republic of Obamaville (or, as it was known before the revolution, Zuccotti Park).

It seems "the Occupy Wall Street volunteer kitchen staff launched a 'counter' revolution yesterday--because they're angry about working 18-hour days to provide food for 'professional homeless' people and ex-cons masquerading as protesters."For three days beginning tomorrow, the cooks will serve only brown rice and other spartan grub instead of the usual menu of organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep's-milk-cheese salad.

They will also provide directions to local soup kitchens for the vagrants, criminals and other freeloaders who have been descending on Zuccotti Park in increasing numbers every day.

To show they mean business, the kitchen staff refused to serve any food for two hours yesterday in order to meet with organizers to air their grievances, sources said.

It reminds one of Seinfeld's Soup Nazi: "No soup for you!" But it's also reminiscent of President Obama's comments noted yesterday: "The one thing that we absolutely know for sure is that if we don't work even harder than we did in 2008, then we're going to have a government that tells the American people, 'you are on your own. If you get sick, you're on your own. If you can't afford college, you're on your own. If you don't like that some corporation is polluting your air or the air that your child breathes, then you're on your own.' That's not the America I believe in. It's not the America you believe in."

Yet to judge by their actions, the denizens of Obamaville have come to believe in it very quickly. They selfishly feast on spaghetti bolognese and sheep's milk, but when the truly needy show up, the cupboard is bare. "No soup for you! You're on your own, freeloader." Apparently it's the bottom 1% against whom they're waging class war.

Of course we are being half-facetious here. In truth, the Obamavillians are learning why Obama is wrong--why socialism doesn't work. A society that makes a virtue of dependency ultimately encourages freeloading and grifting. The instinct to prevent it is a healthy one. A lot has been written about the similarities and differences between Obamaville and the Tea Party, and here is one: Whereas the latter arose out of the instinct to reward self-reliance and discourage dependency, the former is having it awakened by an encounter with the real world.

Will Obama ever have such an encounter with the real world? Probably not until he's been out of office for at least 10 years. There were no reports that any homeless people or ex-cons showed up asking for dinner at the million-dollar fund-raiser where he made the sanctimonious remarks quoted above. If they had, the Secret Service would have told them they were on their own.

I like rice, I've eaten plain rice before for dinner.

If they really believe in this cause then they should be able to eat the bare minimal.

Blend in a dash of oil of clove, along with a little dirt and crushed bird's nest for ... hmmm ... texture? LOL

:P I prefer to just cook up some egg fried rice, but these people should be willing to give up the luxuries of home for their cause.

Yes, the OWS can shift from one side of their tents to the opposite, expanding the breadth of room for New York homeless. Do be cautious though in your expansion, not to touch the top of your canvas abode; condensation tends to drip into a puddle you may not yet appreciate wallowing in early in the morning before you creep outside for a sneak pee or to shovel the snow.

They certainly don't eat better than we do - although we support their movement.

It would appear that the presence of a real grassroots movement really frightens a lot of you. The winter may or may not give you any surcease, but I predict that if it does, the spring will take your breath away.

The "kids" are right, the paradigm HAS to shift. It will, one way or another - it seems as if the part of the top that does not support Occupy (60% of those earning more than 100,000$ a year do support raising taxes for example. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-5... ) doesn't get the idea that the country they enjoy will be unalterably changed if we continue to careen down the road we are on, with continued technological emergence and no corresponding shift in the paradigm governing the socio-economy.

Don't be frightened please, spend the time to become educated on all of the underlying issues. Don't become educated by starting out with preconceptions that you refuse to budge from, but by seeking out as much information as you can, digesting it, and then parsing what it means to the society, and ultimately to you.

It can be done. I was a Right winger once, and I did it - so can you.

    Kind thoughts,

    Reyn

Wasn't the story last week that the stinkies were questioning the homeless bums on how to live on the street? I guess they didn't like the answer they got, "Mooch off the lazy, rich, white kids, they're idiots, but the food is real good!"

And how ironic that this virtual Marxist / Socialist experiment called OSW in Zuccoti Park is ending up proving the unworkability of the insane system.

Don't forget that there are plenty of ex 60s hippies in the Tea Party.

With the incoming snow they now have "shovel" ready jobs too! LOL Ooops.. heard the rant about exporting guns, missiles and tanks ... didn't want to do that, did he, of course to not do so, means loss of jobs, just like shutting down NASA. This kid is one continuous verbal contradiction.

About a week ago it was on the news here in a small Cincinnati OWN. The media (some reason I was watching the mainstream - I guess old habits are hard to break) was reporting how the homeless started to join in on the grub. The OWN were not happy about it. The homeless started sharing the park they were in. The OWN wasn't happy about it. I broke out laughing the media didn't even realize what they were doing. It was too freaking funny.. Perfect case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Now how about refunding some of the Tea Party's cash? Or are only liberals allowed to be freeloaders?

The OWS menu is better than what most people get on a regular basis. These are spoiled brats telling lies about how great socialism will be if we only give it one more chance. At the same time they are dismantling true socialism in their camps.
