No Pie For You, Welfare Queens!

ProudProgressive 2012/08/21 12:49:36

Well isn't this special? It's bad enough that there are millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet, fighting to find the jobs that ten years of conservative politics have shipped to China while protecting Mitt Romney's Cayman Islands bank accounts. These are decent Americans trying to provide for their families, not criminals. So why is it that the Right Wing mindset is simply to make their lives that much more difficult?

No Pie For You, Welfare Queens!

I think I'm supposed to take something away from this segment. Something like the idea that poor people shouldn't eat pie. Or cookies. At least, not if they're made by this lady, who stomped her tiny little hoof and forbade those food stamp baddies from eating her nummy pies.

Wonkette's Rebecca Schoenkopf sums it up rather well:

This is odd: in a four-minute segment on our hero baker lady who simply does not care to sell her sticky treats to those gross food stamp families, fully two separate people bring up the Civil Rights Act and how shop owners may not discriminate against entire classes of people! Huh. Weird. But never fear, others step into the breach to remind us that shop owners have a right of association (as, of course, does the farmer’s market that wanted the baker lady to participate in their EBT-accepting token system in the first place), and that sometimes people on welfare buy cigarettes and tattoos, and that states are looking into that … somehow. (Obviously, Poors are not buying tattoos or cigarettes with their food stamps, but somehow the state will ensure that they never use Money to purchase legal products that the state finds gauche.) Anyway, the whole thing ends as it should, with some man person intoning, “What a shame that we’ve erased ‘shame’ from society. Why can’t we make someone embarrassed for living off others?”

Someone tell that guy about farm subsidies, okay? Also oil subsidies?

But no, instead they rise up, shouting "Let them eat pickles!" No pie for the little government-teat sucking poor, no. Pickles. And shame. Those are okay.

Poor or rich, everybody wants something sweet once in a while. The sad thing is, those who are abusing the system make it harder for those who need the system.

People like that are always looking down on the down trodden. I hope Karma takes care of that person, hope she loses her business and has to go on food stamps.

I have been hearing this same mantra from conservatives all my life. They hate the poor and think it is their own fault. (Herman Cain) They do not allow for any differences in circumstances, brains, personality, home life, culture, or anything else that might contribute to someone not succeeding. Mostly they want people to not have abortions but let the children live in poverty and slums. They are pro birth but not pro life. There used to be the story of the Welfare Queen driving to the welfare office to get her check in her Cadillac . It was amazing how many people actually saw her and how many cities she lived in.

Nobody gives me pie. I have to work for it. Don't see anyone crying me a river on Sodahead about that either.

i would have to say that most people on welfare should NOT be on welfare and we need to limit the payouts to a certain number of months. . . so that people on welfare will go out and try to find work. . . or better work or apply for student loans and get an education or something. . . so many of them just sit at home eating macaroni and cheese waiting for the next check.

Oh, more from those compassionate conservatives? Now lets hear them whine again about Michelle Obama and Michael Bloomburg being the food police. Seems they have one of their own targeting food stamp users many of whom are middle class unemployed.

Money is money, no matter the source. If she rather not sell her pies to those on EBT that is her right, but complaining about what she doesn't have later....silly. =)
