Realistically, Newt Gingrich hasn't really been "in the running" for president for the last few months, but the presidential hopeful held on to the GOP candidacy longer than Mitt Romney's primary contender, Rick Santorum. Maybe he was holding out for a freak accident, or maybe there were some behind-the-scenes reasons for prolonging his candidacy. Whatever the case, it's over now. Gingrich officially put an end to his 2012 presidential run.

He made the announcement in a hotel ballroom near Washington, D.C., but didn't sound too enthusiastic about Romney. He said, "Today, I am suspending the campaign, but suspending the campaign does not mean suspending citizenship ... I'm asked sometimes, 'Is Mitt Romney conservative enough?' And my answer's simple: 'Compared to Barack Obama?' You know, this is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan, this is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history." Is the end of his "wild ride" of a campaign upsetting or anticlimatic?

You guys should have thought of that before. Had you all not spent every waking minute of the last four years hating, spewing, wishing him to be a failure, you could have been looking for a viable candidate to confront this President. But then in looking over the field, I don't see anyone else out there either.

the present set of gop runningfor president are some of the most bigotist ppl i have seen since the late 50s early sixties .tell americans the truth this country is going thru changes some jobs are gone never to return technology has taken over and there is still more jobs to go .ppl be ready america is becoming a welfare state and no one can stop that.barack obama came in office qand is stablinzing the countries economy give him some praise forget that he is black he is doing not one one person out there can do better so continue to have a shot at it obama things will get better but ppl it takes time ok it time to junk the republican garbage

You need to let go of partisan politics? Bush spent over a trillion a year, for eight years. Obama, has spent nearly 6 trillion in less than 4 years. Black or white... Obama's burning through the green, and must be stopped! Only one candidate can stop the hemorrhaging, has a plan, and the experience to put it in place...

You hit on what I think is the most important investment we could and should be making in this country. Education. We need to re-tool and and re-train the workforce and no, I don't mean everyone should go to college.

There was a time when you could graduate from high school, get a job at a factory and work there for 40 years. Making a decent living, own a home and you didn't get brought to you knees by a serious illness. Those kinds of jobs are gone or if they are sitll here, they're not paying enough to achieve the Middle Class dream. When the middle class is strong and viable everyone benefits. I can never understand why education has become such a low priority.

I agree David. But when you have a mega ego, delusions of grandeur and truly believe you are the smartest in the world, what to do? Naturally those of us with less talent, intelligence and grasp of history as he sees it and defines it, would believe we wouldn't give any of those pesky little pieces of baggage a second look, if we even gave it a first.

He would if Ron Paul would pay off his campaign debt he would. That's why he is supporting Romney. It goes to show what kind of man he is. Will jump to anyone as long as money is involved.

I have never cared for Gingrich much. He is largely responsible for the coarsening of American political discourse with his list of suggested nouns like calling anyone who disagrees with you a traitor.

The one thing I did approve of was Gingrich's pro space exploration stance. The US is losing the space race and he was the only candidate to even mention it.

The only upsetting thing about him getting out of the race is that he did not endorse Governor Romney. He's still on an ego trip. Romney is the best man for the job and he just can't get over his huge loss.
