Newt Gingrich Drops Out of the Race: Upsetting or Anticlimactic?

Realistically, Newt Gingrich hasn't really been "in the running" for president for the last few months, but the presidential hopeful held on to the GOP candidacy longer than Mitt Romney's primary contender, Rick Santorum. Maybe he was holding out for a freak accident, or maybe there were some behind-the-scenes reasons for prolonging his candidacy. Whatever the case, it's over now. Gingrich officially put an end to his 2012 presidential run.

He made the announcement in a hotel ballroom near Washington, D.C., but didn't sound too enthusiastic about Romney. He said, "Today, I am suspending the campaign, but suspending the campaign does not mean suspending citizenship ... I'm asked sometimes, 'Is Mitt Romney conservative enough?' And my answer's simple: 'Compared to Barack Obama?' You know, this is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan, this is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history." Is the end of his "wild ride" of a campaign upsetting or anticlimatic?

Anticipated, unsurprising, inevitable, about time, how did he ever become a serious consideration for nomination in the first place?!

We've known for a while now that it was going to boil down to Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

    Run, Ron, Run! 2012!

Never thought he had a chance in hell anyway
  • John 2012/05/06 17:01:29
He never stood a chance but I would have loved him as the Republican choice. Obama would have carried every state. Same for Santorum. I don't think Romney will beat Obama either but he does stand a better chance.
  • Vipor_GG 2012/05/06 16:57:15
Like the looser ever stood a snowball's chance in Hades anyway! We're probably going to get stuck with a looser anyway (Romney or Obama).

Finally, and with a campaign in debt. What a way to be an example.
He is backing his party not Romney with I will always support the republican party. What a cop out.

I thought that people might come around eventually, but I guess an inteligent debater with great ideas and the understanding of how to make them work, is not what America wants.

It is amazing to me that Newt was not given a chance. I believe he would make an excellent Commander and Chief. Certainly better than Obama! However, what separates the republicans from the democrats is a sense of morality. Newt has made some moral mistakes. The republicans around the country did not accept his remorse. That is why he had to drop out. However, the democrats, have accepted all of Obama's indiscretions; utter lies, radical Islamic ties, Rev. Wright, fake birth certificate, rumors of homosexuality and cocaine use, beliefs that women are of a lower class, hatred and prejudice and all the rest. Let's HOPE that they have seen the light AND true CHANGE [Obama losing in 2012] happens.

Once again, somebody tries to make it a racial issue. Is that all you Obama worshipers can do? You certainly cannot say, "Look what he has done...", in a positive sense.

And Buchanan....definitely the worst since Wilson.....
  • bt sedlock Deere G... 2012/05/14 04:03:28

How was Wilson the worst? He was considered by historians as one the greatest president of the 20th Century with his attacks on monoplies, leading us us into victroy in World War I and his brainchild for world peace the League of Nations which of course failed cuz the U.S. was not a member. But the Leauge became the forerunner to the United Nations which has kept world peace and has prevented a World War III from happening. I definitely agree that Wilson was definitely opposed to civil rights legislation for black; he was a racist.
