The New York Post released a political cartoon of two officers standing over a dead pet chimp. There was a chimpanzee that brutally attacked a Connecticut woman. Reverend Al Sharpton, a black activist, is accusing the New York Post of racism. The reference to Obama is implied by one of the cartoon officers stating that, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stumulus bill." The cartoonist has a history making attacks on homosexuals and other minorities.

Not everything has to be about race FFS. Bush was compared to a chimp and no one said it was racist, actually it was rather accurate though. Maybe we should just ban chimps? Then will Al Sharpton shut up and stop the "hate whitey" B.S.?

And it was mostly about the stimulus bill! The cartoonist was showing his disdain for the stimulus package and cleverly put two top headline stories into one with his cartoon. He just stated in that cartoon what most of us moderates and conservatives were thinking that the stimulus package should have been shot dead just like that crazy murderous chimpanzee! And if anyone gets out of that cartoon that he might be referring to Obama as being a monkey, then you people are the racist and need to reevaluate your own self worth. His cartoon had nothing to do with anything racist. They were just two very valid headline news stories. Both headlines had important issues to address at that time. The cartoonist did a darn good job of addressing both into one.

Although I'd feel a little more sympathy for the Post if the cartoon had been funnier - it really wasn't funny at all, but not because it crossed any line, it just lacked humor - the very idea that the cartoon was/is racist is a form of thought control.

I think the cartoon was offensive toward Obama...and his race. BUT!!! There have been comparisons about Bush and a chimp. Bush is Caucasian....and we didn't see many white people getting upset over that now, did we? I also do believe that America actually has gotten more racially offensive since Obama took office!

The cartoonist had to know the metaphorical image was ambiguous, and no doubt chose it intentionally to create just the uproar that it did. It is precisely the ambiguity that grabs attention: that makes it in poor taste at least, but then, most cartoonists strive for that. That it was chosen by the paper's editor does reflect upon the paper, say what you will. You can all name a number of publications that simply would not have used it.

There is no "Racism" here. It's all in your mind. Do you refer to all Americans by thier ethnicity? No, so why is it African American. For me you're either an American or not. That is one of the race problems if you ask me.Every thing blacks want, blacks get. No mo nigger,ok. No mo hoe,ok. No mo bitch,ok. No mo nappie headed,ok. Now,how about no more cracker, no more honkie, no more whitey,etc.,etc.,etc. How about getting rid of the black, asian, latino gangs that are killing thier own people, innocent bystanders, poor little kids. Don't you think there's more important things to complain about besides some fucking monkey?

The cartoon combined the chimp attack with the terrible stimulus package the administration put out, a stimulus package so bad that a chimp must have written it. I saw that NY Post cartoon when it came out and not a thought of racism crossed my mind. I think this administration is sooo sensitive. They ought to grow up. Maybe they ought to be compared to another set of monkees.

Yes, I thought it was racist. I knew that it would be an issue once Obama became president. Not a lot of people had accepted that he is president and can't overlook his skin color. No matter if he has done good to this country, his skin color will be an issue. I think it is wrong and rude to even think about doing that. They should be sue or at least get fired from their jobs. They should had known better not to do that and it looks like a threat to the president. This world has gone insane and there is no coming back. This world is bunch of racist and the sad thing is, no one want to admit that they are.

The cartoonist's hangups. The caption was uncalled for. Without it I'd say it was about the chimp attack.

And to those who say the Shrub was compared to a Chimp for years, it's because he looks like one, and has about as much reasoning ability.

The real racism is in the perception of those that are highlighting the fact that it has dark fur rather than being a monkey.. these same folks thought it fine to refer to Bush in this manner... the racism is by those ASSUMING it is about race, rather than incompetence..

The chimp attack was in the headlines. Obama happens to be the president. Period. The sitting president is fair game for political cartoons. If McCain had won the election and had pushed the same stimulus bill, he would have been featured in that cartoon. The point of the cartoon was that this stimulus bill is stupid and could have been written by an ape. It has nothing to do with President Obama's race. When George Bush was president, I saw a side-by-side picture of Bush and an ape. Nobody said anything about that. Just because Obama is black, should that mean that he shouldn't be up to the same scrutiny as a white president would? Where was Sharpton's outrage about the Bush comparison? Anybody who cries "racism"
over this cartoon is really racist themselves. To assume that just because Obama is black means that he is to be compared to an ape is in itself a racist stand. And if we have to treat the current president with kid gloves just because he is black, then that puts him on a different playing field, and that, more than the cartoon, is racist.

treat current president kid gloves black playing field cartoon racist

Now, why is the above picture totally acceptable, yet when a black person is entered into the equation, it becomes a racist attack? As long as people keep feeding into that attitude, racism lives on. Equality is equality.
