Milk. It does a body good, right?
A recent investigation has revealed traces of MRSA in milk supplies in the U.K., the first time any form of MRSA has been traced to dairy cattle in the U.K.
MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is an antibiotics-resistant superbug that is difficult to treat and potentially fatal.
In response to the finding, Organic farming lobby The Soil Association has called for a complete ban on antibiotics use in livestock, due to concerns that antibiotic treatment of farm animals may promote drug-resistant bacteria.
Experts insist there is no threat to the safety of milk sold in shops due to the pasteurization process, but the sale of unpasteurized milk in the U.K. is legal.
Are you worried about MRSA in your milk?

The discovery raises concern that intensive farming methods may be encouraging the emergence of new MRSA strains which are resistant to an ever-wider range of antibiotics.

DavE 2011/06/03 05:43:19Yes+4Growing up milking 30 Guernseys in a low-tech environment (organic for sure), hell yes I'm concerned about the prolific use of antibiotics and hormones in our food supply. The bacteria count in our milk was consistently very low due to good naturally hygenic practices (lots of sanitizer and hot water, very cold milk storage, attention to detail). That's the kind of milk I love and trust. Can't make much of a living with a 160 acre family farm anymore.

It aint called Killzitol for nothing. You decide. Choose wisely.
and just so people know...
as you all know...milk comes from a cow's utters...that's there bodies.
Sometimes pus can get into our milk...making it look all green and whatnot...
thus the idea for chocolate milk...
Poor people!
Good farmers will cull staph cows quickly as it spreads easily, and is hard to eradicate. Pasteurization consistently removes pathogens anyhow...so not much to fear unless you are into unpasteurized milk/milk products.
Be aware that many interest groups...like PETA will blow the slightest incidents all out of proportion to promote their agenda.
They want to you eating tofu, and drinking soy milk.
Daaaa Dee
I just don't care any more.
I'd like to add that potentially fatal means nothing. Stubbing your toe is potentially fatal.
