If Romney's in, then he'll be just fine.
Any rational analysis recognizes the risk of war outweigh any potential benefits....unless Netanyahu believes the US will/can not prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and believes a surgical strike on Iran's nuclear facilities will eliminate the possibility Iran gets the bomb.
Sometime God gives us difficult challenges to help us grow and mature. For Israel that challenge is very specific. They must recognize the Tanakh for what is; a campaign commercial written 2500 years ago justifying the rule by Babylonian Administrators over the Persian Province of Judah.
2500 years ago...seriously? woah.
Europeans were relatively successful at colonizing thinly populated places like the Americas and Australia. Perhaps you recollect how these "colonies" worked out in places with larger indigenous populations like Africa, India, and China? So will the colonization of Palestine meet with success like North America? the mixed results of South America? or the failures of Africa?
As for tolerance and peace, that is not mine to give. I don't live and have no intention of living in Palestine. But I do know if you had stolen the farm/orchard on which my grandfather was raised, we would not be friends.
Whites colonized America. Spanish colonized South America. We live peacefully. Talk about sour grapes!
The land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and
national identity was formed. Here they achieved independence and created a culture of national and
universal significance. Here they wrote and gave the Bible to the world.
Impelled by this historic association, Jews strove throughout the centuries to go back to the land
of their fathers and regain their statehood. In recent decades they returned in masses. They reclaimed
the wilderness, revived their language, built cities and villages and established a vigorous and
ever-growing community with its own economic and cultural life. They sought peace yet were ever
prepared to defend themselves. This right was acknowledged by the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917, and re-affirmed
by the Mandate of the League of Nations, which gave explicit international recognition to the historic
connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and their right to reconstitute their National Home.
There are numerous parallels between these historic nations and modern Israel which leads me to suspect the clock is ticking. Without dramatic reform, modern Israel is unlikely to celebrate its Centennial.
As for the connection of the Jewish people with Palestine....that connection is through the Tanakh, aka, the Jewish Bible; assembled and written by the "Men of the Great Assembly". Who were these "Men of the Great Assembly"? They were mid-level Babylonian Administrators sent to Judah by Persia to administer the Persian Province of Judah. The Babylonian training explains why they assembled a book that says God intended for them and their children to rule Judah. The Persian influence explains why this book teaches a variation of Zorastrianism.
I see no other viable option for Israel.
