Former South African president Nelson Mandela, whose defiance led to the dismantling of the country's racist apartheid system, has died. He was 95 years old.

Within the past few years, Mandela had experienced growing issues with his health, including multiple hospitalizations due to a chronic lung infection. Mandela had been considered in "serious but stable condition" after his hospitalization in June 2013.

After spending nearly 30 years in prison, Mandela became the soft-spoken but stern president of South Africa. In fact, he became the country's first black president. Additionally, Mandela was given the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership in ending apartheid without violence.

Do you think Nelson Mandela has served as an inspiration to both his supporters in South Africa and around the world? Did Mandela motivate you in any way? And will his legacy continue?

Nelson Mandela was never my cup of tea. His political beliefs were of Marxist Communism. He was in prison in South Africa, not for disagreeing with their policies but for terrorism. He later on claimed responsibility for the Church Street bombing. Now, Mr. Mandela may never have personally participated in these acts of violence, but he had the responsibility to make it absolutely clear to the other members of the group that violence wouldn't be tolerated. His wife was no better, having made a poem about necklacing.
Wikipedia says "Necklacing is the practice of summary execution and torture carried out by forcing a rubber tire, filled with petrol, around a victim's chest and arms, and setting it on fire. The victim may take up to 20 minutes to die, suffering severe burns in the process."

There is nothing in this man's life that I see worthy of god-like worship that is being displayed all over the world. Sure there are some things in his life that he may have done good, but even the wickedest of us do good things sometimes. This world has a sick, twisted view that he was such a great leader. Well the world will mourn for its own, I for one will not. If you are a friend of the world, you are most likely an enemy of God.

I didn't hate the man, but hated his political ideolog...

I didn't hate the man, but hated his political ideologies and actions. I hope that he accepted Christ as his Lord and savior before he died. If not, he has a horrible eternity to look forward to.

What pisses me off is that Obama deliberately missed the funeral of a really great world leader---Margaret Thatcher, but has the time to go to Mandela's funeral! Of course...Marxist lover! And to further put salt on the wound to patriotic Americans, Obama ordered OUR USA flags at half-mast??? What an insult and slap in the face to America!

He could have caused a blood bath and chose not to. That's awesome. To get over the personal bitterness he MUST have felt at being deprived of the prime of his life... Good for him!!

Why don't you look, find do a little research on NM because he wasn't a nice man. After he got out of prison he changed and tried to do good but it doesn't change what he did. Stop being part of the problem or a sheep and go read.

Well I appreciate it, but it seems that I may have spoken too quickly. I am discovering the coverage of his life was pretty censored here.

I don't think it has anything to do with wanting apartheid to still exist....just that he was not who he was made out to be here. Of course almost no one is. We tend to see ONE thing and keep that and toss the bits we don't like to listen to... Very few people are mother Theresa. There is good and bad in almost everyone. I was not under an illusion that he is or was a saint, but there are things I didn't know.

Excuse me I liked MLK because he was a peaceful man who was and did non violent acts and he inspired people. NM did this after serving 20+ yrs in prison but it still doesn't change on what he did. Also NM was communist and embraced communist ways and dictators.
