I don't know what's more alarming: The ridiculous quantity the DHS purchased (one and a half rounds for every man, woman, and child in the US), or the specific type. Apparently this second purchase was made by the National Marine Fisheries Service rather than the National Weather Service, but the same dilemma applies.

To cause an ammo shortage. Guns will never be regulated in the USA, there are too many unaccounted for, but if you have no ammo for them I guess they could make an effective club or something. Anyway, the moral of this story is, if you have a gun - stock up on ammo - NOW

That's a good question. The spokesperson for the NOAA didn't give specific details as to why they needed that much ammunition. I'm a little curious myself, but I doubt it's for nefarius purposes. If they were ordering spydrone aircraft or surveillance equipment I'd be a lot more suspicious of nefarius activity...

Then they must be getting ready to shoot to kill those scrambling for help and sustenance in an upcoming time of our Gvovernment collapsing.Also having bullet proof "toll booth" to keep flocks of people from attempting to flee the constant horror in their lives. Or to reach those in power, wealthy and having an over abundance of what they will be depriving the masses from having.these booths will act as milItary check points. I have no clue why the National Weather Service would need this! I own a gun for self protection, and I don't even buy whis type of ammo.

I only use hollow points in my carry gun. But since when is the NWS a part of our national security. Then again I don't believe a lot of what is on blogs.

Second, an update to the article says that it was not really intended for the Weather Service but for the "NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement", a different branch of the NOAA.

But third, I agree that it sounds fishy (no pun intended) that they would need such a large quantity of ammo and even stranger that they would want hollow point bullets.
