Nancy Pelosi’s Office Doctors Photo of House Democratic Women: Reasonable or Ridiculous?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s office organized a group photo of all the Democratic women (to commemorate the fact that for the first time in history the party’s House of Representatives caucus does not have a majority of white men.) But four members didn’t make it to the photo shoot in time. Instead of waiting longer for them or omitting them altogether, Nancy Pelosi’s office decided to photo-shop the missing members into the back of the photo.

Pelosi has since defended her actions to the press. She told a news conference, “It was an accurate historical record of who the Democratic women of Congress are. It also is an accurate record that it was freezing cold and our members had been waiting a long time for everyone to arrive and . . . had to get back into the building to greet constituents, family members, to get ready to go to the floor. It wasn't like they had the rest of the day to stand there."

Traditionally, when someone isn’t available for a group photo, they are listed separately or their portrait photos are superimposed. Photoshopping them into the picture is a form of deception, it’s a lie, and is in bad taste. This is unbecoming for a representative of the people.

When you're that ugly in mind, soul, and body, there is no other recourse than to "clean" up the pictures. You have to admit that Democratic women give an all new definition to the word ugly. Put them beside Republican women and ugly goes even deeper than just to the bone.

Quite reasonable. Republicans, of course, with lack of concern for the feelings of others, would have left them out--and all tried to get into the front row themselves. As an historical thing and as a keepsake for those involved, I really commend the commend the people in Pelosi's office for their thoughtfulness.

I fail to see what the big deal is here. So they photoshopped the 4 women in that couldn't make it on time. So what? If they'd wasted time waiting, you'd be complaining about that too. If they'd been left out, you'd probably be complaining about that as well.
