Mubarak Is 'Clinically Dead': Should They Pull the Plug on Him?

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was been declared clinically dead. The 84-year-old politician reportedly suffered a stroke Tuesday morning, just a few weeks after receiving a life sentence for the deaths caused last year by Arab Spring protests against his prolonged presidency. Within hours, Mubarak was pronounced clinically dead. He's still on life support, but not likely to recover.

Initially, Reuters was told by the military that they could not use the term "clinically dead" because he was being kept alive. One source described his condition as "completely unconscious ... using artificial respiration." However, it was enough to elicit "cheering and fireworks" in Tahrir Square, USA Today reports. Does it sound like Mubarak can be put to rest, or should doctors keep working on him?

I picked yes by mistake. What I really mean is how the can any of us answer the question. If the doctors are saying there is no hope for improvement and they are artificially keeping him alive, then what is the point? Either way the decision needs to be made by the family or according to a living will.

I find it ironic that a conservo blog that hates 'Obamacare' for rationing out healthcare and will have 'death panels' seems to have a consensus that if a person is in a coma for more than 90 seconds has to have all hope of recovery removed immediately. I could drop on by his room in the hospital and pop two into his head and speed this thing up if anybody wants....

I dont really know what he did, most people say he was a a$$ but I think anyone who is "clinically dead" should have the plug pulled unless their family or they have a written will stating otherwise....the hospitals only want to keep those who are brain damaged alive so they can bill the family and insurance company, its a damn shame

Ok. My comment was based on my opinion of whether a human should be given more time to possibly make a recovery. Now that I know that, I'm considering changing my opinion.

It doesn't make any difference. His plug was pulled the day he stepped down. The entire Middle East is doomed to war, violence, and poverty until they learn the FIRST step toward democracy: the peaceful transition of power. Anybody in power in the Middle East (except Israel) that steps down from power is resigned to either prison or death. Until that changes, the Mubaraks, Ghadafis, and Assads of this world have no choices except to hang on to power at all costs or surrender and die.

It's not our choice. You could kill him or you could try and force him to come back. Depends on whether or not you want him to suffer.

ANYONE should have a living will that goes into effect on cessation of essential brain function unless you want to keep a body warm and the heart beating just to expend valuable resource in futility.

Well,.. It’s hard to know that in the west, for that matter the world, it seems HE held onto power so long.

Problem is, you and I get world news that is always (slanted) to world political situations for your country and ours. In this world today, it’s hard to know the truth.

Let’s just hope any new government is best for the people.
