More Men are Taking 'Pink Collar' Jobs: OK or Unfair?

Times are tough out there! Jobs are few and far between, for men and women. And men particularly are exploring some traditionally female-dominated professions. The New York Times reports that between 2000 and 2010 "occupations that are more than 70 percent female accounted for almost a third of all job growth for men, double the share of the previous decade."

As traditionally male jobs in construction and manufacturing dry up, men are branching out, and many are pleasantly surprised to find stability, as well as less stress in some cases and more time at home, according to the report. The Times says: "While women continue to make inroads into prestigious, high-wage professions dominated by men, more men are reaching for the dream in female-dominated occupations that their fathers might never have considered." Dental assistants, receptionists, nurses... it's all fair game. Or is it? Are men taking spots women have worked for years to earn?

*facepalm* not all women WANT to get married. And I'm sure that that is because of men like you.
  • TKramar ☠ Live ... 2012/06/13 16:30:21 (edited)
Women should get married as quickly as possible. I've known a number of women that married right after high school.

Anyway, until they do, their father can take care of them.

No they're not. They made intelligent choices.

Heh, maybe if they aren't intelligent enough to go to college and get a life, maybe being a house slave to a guy like you is their best bet...
  • TKramar ☠ Live ... 2012/06/13 16:37:44
They're intelligent enough to choose not to. They also know their proper place.

Enjoy your sex slave. Civilized American men like partners, not slaves.

She is my partner. She has her job, and I have mine. We're not both trying to do the same job.
  • Superman TKramar 2012/06/13 13:56:48
Yeah, I was right. You hate women.
  • TKramar Superman 2012/06/13 16:04:20
Nope. I know my place and they should know theirs, that's all. I've never dated any woman who had any other job but me.
  • Superman TKramar 2012/06/13 16:09:42
Let me fix that for you:

    "I've never dated any woman."

    There, that fixes your statement.
  • TKramar Superman 2012/06/13 16:23:44
No, woman that had any other job but me. That was the correct statement. It's my job to bring in the money, and their job to spend it.

And your "role" is having women steal your hard earned money? For nothing? You're an idiot, and you're wasting your money.
  • TKramar ☠ Live ... 2012/06/14 21:08:39
Steal? No, she earns it. She cooks, she cleans, she does laundry, she interacts with the outside world, grocery shopping etc. I do nothing but work, but she has plenty of work of her own.

Out of curiosity, are you American? And what kind of culture did you grow up with? Because I can see where you're coming from if you grew up with a culture like that, where women get married as soon as possible and such. Other wise, women are independent and don't have to rely on men all the time anymore.
My mother had to get a job beacause her and my father divorced, so my father can't support us if he's not in the picture. Why would she move back in to her father's house after proving herself worthy of living on her own with two children?
  • TKramar The Dem... 2012/06/14 09:20:18
I am American, and I graduated high school in 1988. Most of my classmates did marry right out of high school and are grandparents already.

If they want to, why not? Not everyone's suited to traditionally male jobs...
  • Proggy 2012/06/12 21:01:26
A job is a job. It pays, it's honest and if it takes care of one's needs and responsibilities it's all good. By the way, what's with the "pink collar" reference? Some may take offense to that.

I would have said ok if it was level playing field for women as well but we all know that if this question was reversed (women doing men's jobs) then half of your opinions would be opposed.
  • Rave AngelaDuke 2012/06/12 22:44:24
Women are doing "mens jobs" last I checked many women were doctors, in business, in the military etc.
  • hasher AngelaDuke 2012/06/13 00:30:38

As you can see, middle class America is going down the tubes. White collar workers made up at least half and blue collar workers the rest. But todays blue collars are not making the high wages they were ten years ago. But the coast of liveing keeps going up.
