Cape Canaveral will be looked at like Kitty Hawk and the Wright Brothers in time. The new methods of space adventures will be privatized and more efficient.

As an American citizen I already OWN a piece of NASA, and would like to continue to do so by funding it's mission. In the 1960's USA was excelling at new discoverys, now we excell at bickering, fisical irresponsibility, and head in the sand provincialism. Not really an improvement.

Did you all know that some of the astronauts sold a few of their memorabilia and were fined by the government for it???? Yep! But it is ok for the government to sell us down the river!

It would be nice to see private business get involved in NASA. If there is a way to turn a profit, there should be no problem getting investment.

Under Obama NASA is probably a dying enterprise......and won't be flying very high on the stock market anytime soon.

NASA has always been a waste of money.

We already own a piece of NASA. I would demand that any NASA facilities sold to private and/or corporate interests be done so at fair market value, not some "nominal" cost to some connected corrupt back roomer.
I would prefer that NASA rent out these facilities to non-governmental space programs, so that at the least, we can recoup some of the monies spent over the past 50 years.

If I had the money....it would be cool if they could auction off some reasonably priced stuff or models and prototypes of things...or shuttle tiles.

I say no only because I want to see MUCH MORE investment in NASA, not see it selling pieces of itself off but in fact building more facilities

NASA is not shutting down. The Shuttle program is the only part affected. The Shuttles have all been mothballed.Why keep those excess facilities operating? That only wastes our money.

I know it is not shutting down, I never said that it was. I spoke that I want to see much more investment in it and it expanding rather than selling off pieces of itself.. The Budget of NASA is actually rather small, and even closing this down will save a few million, so not a huge amount compared to what we waste money on. Though I'm not speaking specifically of this one thing that is closing, I am speaking of NASA as a whole.

While you may consider it a waste, and that is fine, I have always found overall, investing NASA to be much more of an investment given the technological advances we have achieved through NASA. So, as Mr. Tyson said in the video, and as my comment spoke of, I am speaking of investing more in NASA overall, not just shutting down or closing this one facility.

It costs 1.5 Billion to build and launch a space shuttle once. I believe that private spacecrafts work better and more efficiently (x-prize) because there is money to be made in selling tickets to outer space. There will always be some use for the facilities they are selling, it is simply a matter of price. Ending the space shuttle program would be one of the few policies of Obama i would agree with if it was not being replaced with a different program.

Ya know whats sad, that people think space exploration was part of the "American Dream", when it was really just a stupid race between Russia and America. And all you people commenting seem to be rural backwoods rednecks who believe that Obama has 100% control over the country's economy. Industry and exporting is what kept America flourishing, and since we no longer have that, because company's have moved, we can't spend money on everything that's "cool". And the dummies on here still think we should have had & supported a president who supports "big businesses", and doesn't want to tax them their fair amount!! THEY abandoned us and you still don't blame them??!! If they paid their FAIR amount of taxes we could have gone to MARS!!
