On Monday, protesters will gather near the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement. People in more than 30 other cities around the world will also mark the occasion by attending rallies and marches.

One year ago, on September 17, 2011, a group of young people began camping in Zuccotti Park to protest corporate greed and economic inequality. The gathering quickly grew in numbers, also spreading to other cities around the country and globe. Occupiers became known for the slogan “We are the 99 percent!” and were occasionally joined by celebrities.

On November 15, 2011, New York City police officers shut down the encampment. One by one, Occupy encampments around the country were raided and dismantled. The loss of the encampments, combined with the movement’s lack of leadership or specific demands, caused Occupy to splinter and lose momentum. These days, the Occupy label has been co-opted to protest everything from climate change to illegal immigration.

So SodaHeads, what do you think? It’s been a year since Occupy Wall Street began. Has the movement made a difference?

The Occupy Movement was taken over by corporate elites who seized control. It became a media circus with tables of food, bottled water, and corporate spokespeople such as Reverend Al Sharpton. He had his own media table and did his radio show from the center of the protest.

They all looked like Obama's media team complete with the SEIU thugs.

But people give up to easy, and when those who are guilty don't even pay a fine, it's madding. They keep getting more money and paying to elect a Pr. That will repeal laws Obama signed to keep them from the doing the same dam things, it's very sad.

I believe the "Occupy Wall Street" has made a difference if only in the American people's
awareness and most importantly, new rules and regulations have been put in place by the
Obama administration that will help to insure we never come so close to the crash of 1939. Additionally, the American people now know they have a strong voice and that
they have a real advocate in the White House.

You got all that from a bunch of freeloaders that demand free stuff and for YOU to pay their student loans after they partied for 6 years while getting a worthless degree that won't get them a job. Meanwhile they trashed our parks -you did pay for that- and cost all kinds of police overtime -you paid- before breaking windows and spraypainting meaningless garbage all over a building which of course you paid to clean up. Unless you don't pay taxes or have a bank account -then I guess you are a freeloader too. Go to Oakland and ask them about 'new rules and regulations' and their 'advocate'.

Occupy Fizzled, But Made 99% a Force

The Occupy movement is part of something larger and has moved the concerns of its members onto center stage.

And the issues responsible for the surge of outrage and activism that led to the Occupy movement refuse to go away.

It is the beginning of a paradigm shift, with the institutional surface being stripped away to reveal the raw reality of our new feudalism underneath.

The world once thought the revolutions in Europe and America changed everything, granting individual rights and democratic governments forever. And that the aristocracies and monarchies were swept away once and for all.

america changed granting individual rights democratic governments aristocracies monarchies swept

america changed granting individual rights democratic governments aristocracies monarchies swept

america changed granting individual rights democratic governments aristocracies monarchies swept

    The world was wrong.

granting individual rights democratic governments aristocracies monarchies swept world wrong

OWS is the Democrat version of the Tea Party. Don't trust the media to tell you about either of these groups. GO ATTEND AN EVENT OR TWO WITH EACH OF THESE GROUPS and see what they're really all about. Too many people rely on the lying media for their information. Get out there and get ACTIVE.

If people actually bothered to seek the information it would be readily apparently how much the occupy movement has helped shift the discourse and bring new tactics and provide relief for the hungry and indebted in this country. However people on this website want to believe the movement has failed so they will tell themselves that and refuse to accept any fact saying otherwise.

It's seriously disturbing, how the lame stream media and the current administration loves the Union driven OCCUPY thugs. Occupy is EVERYTHING America isn't. So it isn't surprising that Obama and his administration immulate the occupy crowd - OCCUPY WHITE HOUSE!!!!

it so disappointed obama. he thought he had his very own foot soldiers on the streets to combat the tea party. but then even obama found that he could no longer endorse his occupiers and maintain any dignity as president. they rioted, raped, pillaged, and defecated in the streets. ok behavioe for a community organizer, but not as president. he had to throw them under the bus, like every one else in his past or in his favor.

The leeches of society have done nothing to prove their point except damage, and cost cities billions of dollars to repair. Not one of those leeches is useful in society. Those idiots should get a damm job and learn about making their own money instead of trying to leech of society....
