It's time for a republic

The whole idea of having a monarch seems to be antiquated, ineffective and a mere waste of resources. Does the queen have any real power, not really. The UK or the rest of the commonwealth doesn't seem to be harmed by the having a royal sovereign. As an American, I'm probably partial to the idea of Republicanism being inherently better. However, the commonwealth has a right to be ruled in anyway it wants.

The monarchy cost the British about $160 million every years. However, the tourist trade offsets that about with $7,000 million dollars in revenue. So the royals bring in far more than they cost the people.

There is also a lot to be said for history and tradition that keep the spirit of a country and it's people motivated. I also fail to see why American are even interested in this issue.

Aren't you American too? I was offering an outside opinion and I even acknowledged it. Also it is absurd to say that all tourism would grind to a halt without a functioning monarchy. I was simply offering the viewpoint that I found Republics to be based on sounder political philosophy.

The real problem with Monarchy is Down Syndrome. Beyond that, it isn't the top ones that are so bad but all the thousands of lessor Royals that have special concessions, land holdings and local monopolies.

There is history behind the royals. The american people are obsessed with Hollywood and movie stars, that is Down Syndrome in the extreme with no intelligence behind it.

Yes and the dreadful Q E and the old immigrant Philip live it up in style at tax-payers expense in a six hundred room palace with two hundred odd slaves working and pandering to their every whim. Do not forget that the contract that these servants sign is restrictive in the extreme, absolutely water-tight. No matter what abuse they suffer it has to remain secret. Oh for a courageous person who decides to spill the beans and say sod all to the royals! If the royal brown nosing British media hasn't the courage to release the information, at least Republics world wide will. The secrecy has been made even more so with the royals undemocratic acceptance, that they should be excluded from the 'Commoners' Freedom of Information Act. Damn the royals each and everyone.

Do not forget the in-breeding. Did you know that Prince Harry only managed a D minus (assisted!!!) in his Geography GCSE in Britain. This, by the way is the macho royal who said - "I will never leave my men", except leave them in the Middle East no doubt!

I'm sorry but Americans seem to have an obsession with the Royal Family, i'm not saying this is a bad thing, but why do you like them so much?
