"Mursi" is by far the least worse ...the other candidate "Shafiq" is of the remaining old regime.

Had "Shafiq" been elected the revolution would've been a waste of time...it's up to the new president now to rise to the expectations of the people.

I thinks it's still too early to say that the revolution had succeeded and democracy had been established. The days coming will tell us about that

Yeah, I'm happy they got a democratic vote, but I bet the "democracy" will disappear very soon. I truly hope I'm wrong.

I'm happy for the people of Egypt but I don't like the Muslim Brotgherhood not because of their strong connection to Islam but because they promised they would not influence the Egyptian election so they have already proven themselves to be as slimy and lecherous as all politicians

The MB are strict followers of Sharia Law; they want total and unforgiving obedience to this law...Libya is now under MB control . As much an evil bastard as Assad is; MB will make it worse; that's who Syria is battling; not a so called "Rebel Group"..MB wants to have complete control of the middle east.
And this new "President" has declared openly' that Jerusalem will be the capital city of the Middle East for Islam(sorry Mecca and Medina)

And yet our moronic officials in the Administration are backing the MB! They are backing they same belief system that initiated 9-11; and it's now dead bastard leader Osama Bin Laden....

And the UN is backing the MB for this takeover of Middle East countries...while Israel stands alone; a little country; surrounded by massive countries that want it destroyed...

The real question should be; how long before an all out war is declared against Israel; and will the USA be there for them...

We won't if BHOD is still President..

PS..China and Russia are supporting Syria in this...even they know the MB are up to no good..

You know...for once this issue is not about U.S.A or Israel..it's about the Egyptian people trying to decide their own future...sure I'm not saying they should put America's interest in mind, they shouldn't.. deal with it!!

The previous president sucked up on the American bosom for too long, any new blood is better than the old at this stage I believe.

Having said that though you're not the only one worrying about how extreme the new government would be. the whole Arab & Muslim world is anticipating and worrying that the bloods and lives of those youth who died in Tahrir Square in hopes of a better future would go in vain.

Unless of course you think all Muslims are terrorist and extremists and have no goals in their lives but to destroy your dear Israel then...well I can't deal with such gullibility! :)

    What's going on is:

-Egyptians uproared against their old regime
    -Egyptians overthrew the old president
    -Egyptians demanded change
    -Egyptians voted
    -Egyptians elected Mursi

I believe the Egyptians themselves who elected Mursi would overthrow him if the first thing he'd say "Let's destroy Israel!"

the way I plainly see it. it's not in the better interest for U.S.A the existence of a free democratic country (not according to U.S standards) so any attempt to violate the American critical balance in the region even if it was for the better benefit of the people of that country would be frowned upon by the American government and by extension....you apparently!

our administration support the MB;killers; radicals aligned with Hamas; why is China and Russia sending weapons;planes, tanks and armor and troops to Syria?
Assad is a butcher; but MB is worse..and amazingly they know what the so-called "intellectuals" don't; that MB will institute Sharia Law in every country it takes over...as I said; read up in BOOKS; not just the internet sites; study at a public library..look into the history of the MB; not what Anderson Cooper. or Matt Lauer says; they're pawns of this move against Israel......you're getting ready to see all out war in the Middle East in the months to come,,,,,

I think if they could build a strong welled developed democratic country that puts it's peoples' interest before anything and that would make Israel pee it's pants then they've earned it.

You seem to have an insight on what's going outside...I'm giving you an insight from the inside..the Egyptian revolution started by the people. the Muslim Brotherhood can try to take it over but I bet people are smarter than you think and they'll fight for what's best for them.

Again I don't think you understand this is about Egypt and the Egyptians in the first place

The Muslim Brotherhood is not terribly extreme, and is not anti-US. They are, actually, bitter enemies of al quaeda. We'd all have preferred a secular president, but subsequent elections will ensure moderation, if the mechanics of democracy are preserved there.

A former prisoner is now the elected President & the former President is now a prisoner.

People in Tahrir Square are going wild. SCAF (Supreme Council of the Armed Forces) tried to preemptively de-fang a new President by dissolving the Parliament and reserve "right" to write a Constitution-
secular liberals have held their noses and voted for Morsi-
Some MB members already calling for Morsi to be kicked out of MB for being too conciliatory and not hardline enough.

Are you suggesting that the US government plans on deposing a President chosen by the people in a free and democratic electoral process and replace him with an authoritarian dictator puppet like we did to Iran by eliminating Mossedegh and replacing him with the Shah?

    They dynamics have changed.

I don't believe the world would allow us to do that a second (well)third time.

Don't know enough about the dynamics of what is going on "on the street". I do know when iran was liberated and a democracy was initiated and in motion, the extreme clerics overthrew the sha by religious means and we have what exits today. Hate to see a repeat of that. Not saying its our fault but a hugh challenge in these times.

    You mean in 1951?

Or 1979 when Iran liberated itself from the repressive Shah whom we'd placed in power with a coup 25 years before?

What democracy was initiated? In the early 1950s?

    http://www.fff.org/comment/co...

What exactly is it you don't want a repeat of?
    Democracy? Well, that happened today.

A puppet dictator held in power by the USA?
Well, that was 60 and 40 years ago.

The tribal leaders and the clerics turned over the regime because women were given the right to vote and become educated, the people were also allowed to purchase and own property to raise stock/food to be sold and a large list of legislative changes under the sha who was pressured by the us. This led to the fall 40 years ago. Part of what u say is true but the story goes further.

Are you trying to tell me that you believe that the people of Iran could not own property before 1950?

How could a King, give people the "right to vote", women- or otherwise.
The Peacock throne was ruled by a Monarch- who was placed there by the USA when Mossadegh was elected into office by all of the people of Iran in 1951.

    In a free democratic election.

Mossedegh nationalized the oil industry- and kept the profits for the people- profits which had been taken by BP(British Petroleum) for decades.

We REPLACED a democracy- with a Monarchy. And a dictator who was blind to the needs of his people.

May I ask what your sources are?

You believe the clerics created a democracy and liberated Iran in 1979?

Or do you somehow think the Shah created a democracy?

My source was drawn upon a documentary i saw years ago and perhaps i am incorrect. It may have been a monarchy so-called. In any event you seem to have much more current knowledge on their history than do i. That is how i believed the events unfolded before the shah exciled to what i thought to USA. I am aware (from the source i gave), the we US, built up their military but not limited to that. I would defer to your apparent knowledge, above might be a good read.

Are you a reader? You seem like a reader.
I think you might be interested in a fascinating book that goes back to the 40s- the formation of the CIA itself- and George W.Bush (the father, later Pres) part in it- all the shahs men

It's the book that was quoted in the article (and THAT is just a coincidence as I did not realize it until I'd read much of it).
I think it should be required reading for any who want to understand ME politics.

I bet you can find it in your local library.
But back to Morsi (arabic for mercy) it will be a massive fight.
He has the secular liberals who created the revolution- who created the very election he benefited from- on one side- so he cannot pull to far to any religious extreme-
and the SCAF, or military still trying to hang onto power- the remnants of the disgraced dictator Mubarak- on the other side- and it is very very possible that they might try to take over in a military coup-
how do you think Mubarak came into power?
