Moammar Gaddafi, the former dictatorial leader of Libya, has been killed, the BBC reports. Though it's unsure where the attack happened, one report says that Gaddafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte while another says that Gaddafi's body is in Misrata, Libya.
Reports are also circulating that two of Gaddafi's sons, Mutassim and Saif al-Islam, along with Gaddafi's chief of intelligence, Abdullah al-Senussi, have also been killed. The Al Jazeera Arabic network has also released a gruesome video that shows what appears to be a lifeless Gaddafi with a wound on top of his head.
Moammar Gaddafi, who was 69, was in power for 42 years in Libya until he was ousted by the people earlier this year and circumstantially went into hiding. The Senate's minority leader, Mitch McConnell, says that Gaddafi's death "clears the way for the Transitional National Council in Libya to begin to put together a representative government."
President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an announcement Thursday at 2p.m. ET -- and said that Gaddafi's death "marks the end of a long and painful chapter for the people of Libya." He also added: "Today we can definitively say that the Gadhafi regime has come to an end."
