Mitt to choose this GOP-establishment VP?

DJL 2012/06/20 02:04:51

He’s championed as a solid conservative and a budget hawk who will balance the Mitt Romney ticket with a vice presidential running mate who has extensive expertise with the budget matters.

The Republican establishment is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of Romney choosing Sen. Rob Portman as his 2012 running mate, especially since the senator represents Ohio – and no Republican has ever been elected president without winning that key battleground state.

A solid fiscal conservative is a good choice. Just so we get rid of the communist, Muslim, racist morons now running roughshod over the country.

What are his credentials w/regard to the budget? If he IS a "budget hawk" then I am for him. I do not think Rubio is right for the job. I did not care for his Dream Act. It tells me he is working for "his" people. And no matter how you spin it, that is what the Dream Act is.

RIGHT. Rubio's father was born in Cuba.

One's parents must be born in the US to be a natural born citizen. Rubio's father was born in Cuba. He can never be a Natural Born Citizen. Of course, neither can Obama.

You are both wrong. You can be natural born with foreign born parents as long as they are naturalized before your birth. Rubio's parents were not natralized until he was 4 or 5.

I kind of hope Rubio is pciked as VP. That way his ineligibility can be challenged and Obama would also be found ineligible

I don't. I don't think they would challenge it but I would not vote for him.

There are more than enough people that want Obama found ineligible that would challenge Rubio to get Obama removed.

Rubio was born in Miami, Florida, the second son and third child of Mario Rubio and Oria Garcia. His parents were Cubans who had emigrated to the United States in 1956 and were later naturalized as U.S. citizens in 1975

He was born here and his parents are citizens. If you understood anything about Cuban refugees, you'd know they renounced Cuban citizenship when they arrived here in 1956.

Wrong. Natural born means to be born to citizens. That's why the flap about Romney is way off base since his parents never gave up their US citizenship. In the case of the Cubans, they came here as refugees from Communist Cuba an as such, were allowed in with no problems. They renounced their Cuban citizenship when they left. The only allegiance thay had was to the US. By the way, were you naturalized or were you a product of the original white invasion?
  • Wolfman Racefish 2012/06/21 03:36:48
    Wolfman
Wrong. Natural Born is an it was defined by the Law of Nations. When a child inherits the citizenship of their father, they become a natural-born citizen of the nation their father belongs regardless of where they might be born. It should be pointed out that citizenship through descent of the father was recognized by U.S. Naturalization law whereby children became citizens themselves as soon as their father had become a naturalized citizen, or were born in another country to a citizen father.

One's parents must be born in the US to be a natural born citizen. Rubio's father was born in Cuba. He can never be a Natural Born Citizen. Of course, neither can Obama.

In answer to your question I am a Natural Born Citizen. So is Mitt Romney. Obie and Rubio are not. How about you?
  • Racefish Wolfman 2012/06/21 15:05:28
    Racefish
Definitely. But with Rubio's father relinquishing Cuban nationality, that puts him under the flag of our country.
Until Congress adresses the "citizen at birth" question, I'll accept it as it is.
  • Wolfman Racefish 2012/06/21 17:59:37

I like Rubio. But one can't "become" a natural born citizen. Either your parents were citizens when you were born or they weren't. Rubio's parents were Cuban when he was born. He can never be a natural born citizen.

Rubio's parents needed to be citizens when Marco was born for him to be eligible. He is not because his parents were nauralized after his birth.

It'll come out in the vetting. He was born in Miami to naturalized parents (Americans, in other words) but we'll see.

I found this: Natural-born citizens of the United States are those who are citizens of the United States from birth without having to perform any act to acquire or perfect their American citizenship. These are those whose parents are citizens of the United States at the time of their birth

OOPS!... I also just found this: Senator Rubio was born on May 28, 1971, in Miami. Both parents, Mario and Oriales Rubio, were born in Cuba and came to the U.S. as refugees from Castro’s communist regime. Both were given political asylum and permanent legal residency; however, the Rubios did not become citizens until Nov. 5, 1975, four and one-half years after Marco Rubio was born.

Mark Rubio is not a Natural Born Citizen. He never can be. He is not eligible to be president. Of course, neither is Barack Obama whose father was born in Kenya and was an English subject.
