You will not hear Mitt talk about this. Mexican Romneys are descendants of Miles Park Romney, who came to the Chihuahua desert in 1885 seeking refuge from U.S. anti-polygamy laws. Gaskell Romney, Mitt’s grandfather, settled in Mexico and Mitt’s father, George Romney, was born in nearby Colonia Dublan. They led very prosperous lives there. It could be argued the Romneys are Mexican since Miles Park Romney crossed the border in 1884, rejecting the Edmund Act that in 1882 declared polygamy a felony.
It's really a fine pioneer story, and Mitt still has relatives ( second cousin) living in Mexico. But why isn't the story more well known? Would people really care? Sure, some would. They'd go back to the birth certificate brouhaha, and we'd go from a Kenyan colonial mentality to a Mariachi band in the East Room.

GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has taken harsh, anti-immigrant positions over the past few months. He even vowed to veto the DREAM Act. Last night, NBC's Rock Center on Romney's ties to Mexico. His father was born there. He's got lots of relatives still living there. And, they don't agree with Mitt's current views on immigration.
Watch it til the end for the discussion between Brian Williams and Mike Taibbi, who filed the report. Taibbi states that Romney's dad, George, who was born in Mexico, "could be the poster boy for the Dream Act":

Living in a German Colony in Mexico doesn't make you a Mexican...Mr Romney is enjoying throwing this in to get the hispanic vote. He knows this "segment of society" as someone here put it,has a lot of political pull. His ancestors were mormons and wanted to live the good life of having several wifes and not be bothered by political laws. His grandfather may have been born there, but, with all due repect, was as German as German can be
