Mitt Romney praises Meg Whitman as she prepares to lay off 30,000 workers

If Mitt Romney shares Meg Whitman's vision of "Jobs for America" ... you'd better watch out.
(Brian Snyder/Reuters)
Meg Whitman never said she liked to fire people, but on the same day that news of her plans to lay off 30,000 Hewlett-Packard employees leaked to the press, Mitt Romney felt inspired to lavish praise on her managerial skills and to wistfully lament that she lost her gubernatorial campaign:

I wish Californians had elected Meg Whitman. She would have been more successful and explained to Californians the need to cut back on spending and eliminate unnecessary programs.
Well, Mitt, the good news is that after you follow Whitman's lead and lose in November, you too can head back to the private sector and fire tens of thousands of workers. You know, job creation.
You!

Well, now they sure are two birds of a feather if there ever were such. Her net worth is even more than Mitt's at 1.3 Billion, and she ran for CA governor saying she wanted to represent the people? I don’t get how someone who claims to have that mindset of representing We the People can also have the heart to fire tens of thousands of people. I can’t make those two personality-types fit together in my mind. Just may be for the best that she is not now CA governor.

And the people of California ended up with Moonbeam Brown. The state is going to hell in a handbasket and he wants even more taxes. They deserve him.

Yep, and so did Gray Davis...wasn't that was why he was recalled? Arnold wasn't a Conservative, he was a RINO. That was the problem. I am sure glad I don't live there, I wouldn't want anyone telling me I can't smoke in my own back yard or support all the illegals CA is known to be a haven for. California is turning into Greece.

Any Republican who fails is a RINO to you righties...LOL. Reagan would be a RINO today. Your state isn't exactly basking in prosperity. Thank heavens the president saved the auto industry.

You are right, because if they were a true conservative, they would not be a RINO. No Reagan wouldn't and we need him! Things are turning around in MI now that the Democrats were kicked out of the gov't 2 yrs ago. In fact it was a rout. This time Detroit did not control who was governor. Snyder got us out of our debt already. About the auto industry, all those jobs were replaced with lower paying jobs.

LOL. Reagan would have to run on the Democratic ticket. He pushed for the rich to pay their fair share in taxes, and Grover Norquist would be having a stroke. He raised taxes 11 times, the payroll tax in 1983, and gave amnesty to illegals. Certainly not a today's conservative.

The UAW workers in Detroit gave up some of their benefits for the auto bailout to work, and it meant saving over 1 million jobs there and from parts suppliers.

Maybe he would, but the difference is that Reagan believes in the individual. I don't believe for a minute that GM or Chrysler would have gone under.

Well, everyone else did including Bush. No private venture money was coming forth at all. Obama only completed what Bush started with.

Ford didn't, how come they could survive and GM couldn't? They knew they were going to get a bailout.

Ford was not in the jeopardy that GM and Chrysler was. Their newer smaller models were selling, and they always led in the sales of their F-150 trucks.
  • Peewee luvguins 2012/05/22 16:14:30

Exactly. They changed with the times & put out a good product, GM and Chrysler stayed with their overbloated mentality. Chrysler has some very sharp looking cars, but no repeat business because they fall apart. GM, same. Chrysler hasn't changed, GM is pushing things that nobody wants. Nobody should be rewarded fore poor decisions. Solyndra is a perfect example. You can say it started under Bush, but the Bush team nixed it.

Grandholm was the worst governor MI has ever had. And that's the first I've heard of this. Maybe the unions should have spent all that money helping their companies that they do on political campaigns. You know the media is all in the tank for Obama. Who has plenty of 'flip flops' himself.
  • luvguins Peewee 2012/05/22 21:40:41

The unions cannot match the money from the billionaire Koch brothers Americans for Prosperity and Karl Rove's Crossroads PAC. There are only 7% of them left. Fox News Corp is in the Romney tank.

Granholm was your 2 term governor in some pretty turbulent times for MI then, and anyone else could have been in deep doo doo then. Things didn't look up until the 2008 auto bailout began.

Last I knew, Obama's coffers were way bigger than Romneys, including 18 million from a $40K/plate dinner at George Clooney's home. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, all in Obama tank.

CNN not so much, and Romney is leading in PAC money as one anonymous donor gave gave 10 million to Rove's PAC alone, and Rove plans to have 250 million by crunch time.

If our economy and jobs are an important factor in this election this clown will be on the ballot. These people are exploiting the stock market at the expense of peoples job security to inflate their wealth. A job creator huh.

After that ceremony, Willard took Meg aside and convinced her to let Bain Capital take over HP. He was foaming at the mouth over the possibility of another vulture capital gain for his old company, Aides had to take him aside and remind him his days with Bain are over, and to try and concentrate on the campaign. He became so angry at one aide, he threatened to strap him to the top of the limo and cut his hair!!

If the GOP gets in they can kiss their unemployment benefits goodbye if they don't (30,000 people) don't find new jobs quickly. Then they'll be considered welfare-sucking slime by the very people that put them on the street. As if there isn't enough people already looking for jobs, imagine adding another 30k in a small area. Maybe meg/mitt will come in and buy up their homes at bank sales for 10cent/dollar.

Nope, that is what the democrats push over and over again because they think that women are dumb anough to believe it while ignoring reality. How do these 'feminists' and democrat men really treat women? Yeah, that is what I thought.
