Mitt Romney Lies And Claims Obama Wants To Prevent Troops From Voting

A new day, a new Right Wing lie. The latest bulletin from Right Wing fantasyland is the ridiculous claim that President Obama is trying to curtail the right of the military to vote. Given the level of respect this President has consistently shown to our troops, as contrasted with the shameful disregard shown by his predecessor (including banning any respectful return ceremonies for our fallen heroes, and even court martialing an officer who took a photo of military coffins in protest of the administration's media blackout), such a charge is not only ridiculous, but insulting. The Republicans have no qualms about sending our brave men and women off to die, but when it comes to showing them the respect they deserve, they are nowhere.

Here's an excerpt from Mitt Romney's Facebook page, followed by photo evidence:
President Obama's lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state's early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I'm entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I'll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.
The simplest way to explain this is to say that's a lie, because it is.
It all started when Shannon Bream, a guest host on Special Report, said that President Barack Obama's campaign is suing in Ohio "to prevent military voters in Ohio from having extra time to cast their ballots." The correspondent featured, Ed Henry, showed a video clip of Mitt Romney saying that "it would be a disservice to members of the military to impede them from voting," and "a violation of trust."
Well, Ms. Bream and Governor Romney, you don't quite seem to understand what the President is really suing for. The campaign is actually suing to allow all Ohio voters to vote during that period, because not allowing them to is a violation of the Constitution's equal protection clause. That was reported in the Cincinnati Enquirer, along with the fact that right now Ohio uniformed military personnel, spouses, and voting-age dependents can vote through the Monday before the election.
Only in a Republican mind is suing for equal rights limiting someone else's. As of yet, nothing has been said to apologize or excuse the misinformation that was spread both by the Romney campaign and the Special Report guest host.

That fact that some republican nut cases never bother to research asinine claims is not new. Neither is their inability to realize it was a lie even after it is explained explicitly.
Last year the Ohio republicans REMOVED the extension for normal folk, left it for military folk. Dems are once again battling to allow more people to vote (the exact opposite of what the repubs are doing) by saying that was wrong, it should remain like it was, all can vote those extra days.
"Obama Wants To Prevent Troops From Voting" was not only a blatant lie, but it was nearly the exact opposite of what is really going on. Why do they lie like this? Because their ilk eat this crap up like it is their last meal. All they have to say is "Obama did bad!", and they grab their pitchforks. Like lobotomized children.
He is always disappointed with the results of his actions, but seldom accepts responsibility.
Mitt's lies tumble out of his mouth one after another. He often tries to walk them back but usually, when caught, just goes, " So what?" I believe that his chronic lying is rooted in his religion where facts are not as important as "perception".
We have ID's!
I am part of the retired military community and I support my statement!
I'd also remind you that in Florida 2000 the Republicans had hundreds of military absentee ballots thrown out in Democratic districts.
in! I can wait in line all day, but the military doesn't always have that choice! Why not honor them by making it a little easier?
The Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party are suing the critical swing state of Ohio to strike down a law that makes it easier for members of the military to vote. Under the law, people in uniform may cast early ballots in person up to the day before an election, instead of the previous Friday cutoff for other voters.
Democrats have a transparent political motive. A May 2012 Gallup survey showed Mr. Obama trailing Mitt Romney among veterans 58 to 34 percent. “About a fourth of men are veterans,” Gallup reported, “and it is their strong skew toward Romney that essentially creates the GOP candidate’s leading position among men today.”
The Democrats’ suit alleges the Buckeye State’s law is “arbitrary” with “no discernible rational basis,” but it is a response to a very real problem. “It’s truly difficult to vote,” an active-duty service member told The Washington Times. “The military tries hard to help us out with awareness and links to state voting sites but most troops don’t exercise their franchise because it’s too hard.”

A study by the nonpartisan Military Voters Protection Project found that in 2008, less than 20 percent of 2.5 million military voters successfully voted by absentee ballot. In 2010, that participation shrank to a scandalous 5 percent. In response to these dismal numbers, the project has organized the Heroes Vote Initiative, “the first and only nationwide campaign to encourage military voter participation and to provide those voters with the tools to register and request an absentee ballot.” The project has singled Ohio out as one of 15 “all-star states” for its efforts to promote and encourage military voting.
The political attack on our troops reopens a wound from the 2000 presidential race. During the controversial Florida recount process, Democrats issued a detailed eight-page guide to local operatives for challenging military overseas ballots. The instructions included erroneous guidance that resulted in over 1,500 ballots being wrongly rejected, which were later reinstated after legal action. Facing a public-relations disaster, the Gore campaign relented, but the damage was done. This year, Democrats are up to similar dirty tricks.
On Wednesday, AMVETS, the National Guard Association of the United States and the Association of the U.S. Army — among other military-affiliated organizations — petitioned a judge to dismiss the lawsuit. “It’s disheartening given the full-court press of the Obama administration to court if not pander to the military community,” said our source, an overseas combat veteran. “There is an awful lot of effort going into talking about wounded warriors, for example, and employment for veterans. What’s going on in Ohio is discouraging but not surprising since the administration’s outreach efforts have never seemed sincere.”
“Those few who are making the effort to be citizens in every sense of the word should be supported,” our source said. “It makes you wonder why they are investing that much time and effort to keep the troops from voting. They must be desperate.”

Go read the actual lawsuit that was filed by the DNC. I linked it above. It doesn't ask to stop military early voting. It asks to increase early voting by everybody.
