Mitt Romney Enters Witness Protection Program

When in doubt, refuse to answer. Hey, it worked SO well for Sarah Palin.

Mitt Romney Enters Witness Protection Program

The Romney campaign has decided that their candidate should not have to answer questions he may not like.

Via ThinkProgress:

In a stunning interview with Breitbart.com, two top advisers to Mitt Romney revealed the campaign’s plan to largely ignore journalists in favor of right-wing conspiracy websites.

From the beginning of the campaign, Romney has pointedly avoided news outlets who might pose tough questions. The press dubbed it “the Mittness Protection Program.” As the campaign wore on, Romney has refused to answer direct questions about major policy issues central to the campaign. For example, Romney has still not stated whether he would undo Obama’s order ending deportations for many young undocumented immigrants.

This worked for Sarah Palin and Sharon Angle who made a show of avoiding the “liberal” media after initial, disastrous interviews. Palin got away with it because it was a new tactic and the press was terrified of being seen as “picking” on an obvious intellectual light-weight. Angle didn’t really get away with it as the press was not as kind to her. Romney is taking a huge gamble here.

The right wing has spent decades and billions of dollars creating an echo chamber in which they can create whatever narrative they want in a fact free zone. In this zone, Climate Change is a myth, Evolution is “just a theory” and Ronald Reagan never raised taxes or granted amnesty to immigrants. Fox News is the crown jewel of this alternate reality and Republicans often snuggle into the warm folds of extreme partisanship while fielding the softest of softball questions.

On the other hand, this is a presidential election and the public will not be content with softballs. Further, the mainstream media, which has bent over backwards to accommodate the tender sensibilities of the right, will not appreciate being given the cold shoulder. While Fox may be the most powerful news network, they cannot carry the Romney campaign alone. Should the other networks decide to give Romney the Al Gore/John Kerry treatment, Romney will find that all the glowing praise in the world from Sean Hannity will not overcome negative reporting from a spurned mainstream media.

The real question is whether Mitt Romney will be the first presidential candidate in fifty years to avoid the presidential debates entirely. While one of them will surely be run by Fox, the rest will not. Palin barely held it together for her debate and that was only because Joe Biden handled her with kids’ gloves. Romney will be afforded no such courtesy and President Obama is far better at unscripted events. Remember, Obama debated the entire GOP leadership at once. And won. Romney doesn’t even want to talk to non-sympathetic reporters; what’s he going to do when faced with an opponent that is more intelligent, capable and far more comfortable discussing the issues?

My guess? Lose the election.

Romney seems to be right on concerning this one Luv:

"Obamacare" is a job killer. Businesses across the country have been asked what the impact is of "Obamacare." Three-quarters of those surveyed by the Chamber of Commerce said "Obamacare" makes them less likely to then -- to hire people.

"And perhaps most troubling of all, "Obamacare" puts the federal government between you and your doctor.

"For all those reasons, it's important for us to repeal and replace "Obamacare."

Both Candidates represent an immediate threat to the Constitution and what the founders wanted, it goes without saying that many of you who posted in this blog would take the Founders Constitution and completely rewrite it, I consider this election the day we either save our individuals rights and responsibility or we vote down the vision of our founders, if you dumb sheep who suckle on the tit of big government and want big government, you will wake up one day and see the folly of your ways. But by then this country will be embroiled in another conflagration of death and destruction to save Liberty and Freedom.

Mitt will be toast when Obama and non Fox debate questioners hit him between the eyes.
He can't think straight on his feet when not mouthing his speech writers words on the campaign trail. He can run now, but he can't hide after the convention. If he tries the mainstream media will carve him up like a turkey on Thanksgiving with all his previous positions and the duplicity they have on tape.

Believe me when I say this, the best and only strategy Willard has and can do is to not talk about his plans. By avoiding the main-stream media as much as possible Willard avoids having to reveal that his plan is nothing but George Bush's plan. When he is asked about any policies, he avoids the answering the question at all costs. When asked what he will do differently he merely goes into a wondering diatribe about what Obama did wrong. He never says what he will do differently.

Listen to the Republicans because they tell you exactly what the will do. When President Obama fist took office, Senator McConartist said his number one goal is to make President Obama a one-term president. Nothing about getting people back to work, nothing about fixing wall street, nothing about helping home owners, and most certainly nothing about health care was talked about. Recently when pressed on what he would propose to do with the 30 million people that would lose their health care if he successfully got the Affordable Health Care Act repealed, McConartist said the uninsured people are not the issue and then when on to reiterate his vague "step by step" approach. Weren't these the same people who complained that the other bill, although being over 2700 pages, was a document that no one knew ...

Willard has no plans of his own, and every plan he has signed onto, like Ryan's economic plan and the Republican's health care plan will be complete and utter failures. Ryan's plan will cut taxes for the wealthy, raise taxes on the middle class, destroy medicare and social security while adding at least 3 trillion to the deficit the first year. Nuns are going after this "Catholic" dumb ass because his plan attacks the poor. The Republican's "Health Care" plan will give access to health care to 3 million additional people by 2019. President Obama's plan will give access to health care to more than 30 million people in the same time frame. Why would they not go with President Obama's plan.

So, Willard can't talk about his plans because he doesn't have any plans.

Hey, I don't like either of them, but we've got to pick the best of a bad bunch. Obama hasn't made one major change in America that has been beneficial. He's had an opportunity to do so for four years. Why does he need another four to get nothing done?

Romney, on the other hand, looks promising. I think he has the right idea on the economy and to me, the economy is the most important issue in America. We need a change, a change from Obama.

    Sorry you disagree.

I apologize but I don't see that much of a difference. I'm still living through hard times. Maybe it's just me that doesn't see it. Unemployment and gas were both lower than what they are today. I will give Obama some props on lowering the unemployment because it is steadily dropping.

A few acts and some bills doesn't mean you have a very productive first term. Whats to say he doesn't just do a "few" more with his second term? And what makes you think Romney won't do any better?
