Mitt Romney Enters Witness Protection Program

When in doubt, refuse to answer. Hey, it worked SO well for Sarah Palin.

Mitt Romney Enters Witness Protection Program

The Romney campaign has decided that their candidate should not have to answer questions he may not like.

Via ThinkProgress:

In a stunning interview with Breitbart.com, two top advisers to Mitt Romney revealed the campaign’s plan to largely ignore journalists in favor of right-wing conspiracy websites.

From the beginning of the campaign, Romney has pointedly avoided news outlets who might pose tough questions. The press dubbed it “the Mittness Protection Program.” As the campaign wore on, Romney has refused to answer direct questions about major policy issues central to the campaign. For example, Romney has still not stated whether he would undo Obama’s order ending deportations for many young undocumented immigrants.

This worked for Sarah Palin and Sharon Angle who made a show of avoiding the “liberal” media after initial, disastrous interviews. Palin got away with it because it was a new tactic and the press was terrified of being seen as “picking” on an obvious intellectual light-weight. Angle didn’t really get away with it as the press was not as kind to her. Romney is taking a huge gamble here.

The right wing has spent decades and billions of dollars creating an echo chamber in which they can create whatever narrative they want in a fact free zone. In this zone, Climate Change is a myth, Evolution is “just a theory” and Ronald Reagan never raised taxes or granted amnesty to immigrants. Fox News is the crown jewel of this alternate reality and Republicans often snuggle into the warm folds of extreme partisanship while fielding the softest of softball questions.

On the other hand, this is a presidential election and the public will not be content with softballs. Further, the mainstream media, which has bent over backwards to accommodate the tender sensibilities of the right, will not appreciate being given the cold shoulder. While Fox may be the most powerful news network, they cannot carry the Romney campaign alone. Should the other networks decide to give Romney the Al Gore/John Kerry treatment, Romney will find that all the glowing praise in the world from Sean Hannity will not overcome negative reporting from a spurned mainstream media.

The real question is whether Mitt Romney will be the first presidential candidate in fifty years to avoid the presidential debates entirely. While one of them will surely be run by Fox, the rest will not. Palin barely held it together for her debate and that was only because Joe Biden handled her with kids’ gloves. Romney will be afforded no such courtesy and President Obama is far better at unscripted events. Remember, Obama debated the entire GOP leadership at once. And won. Romney doesn’t even want to talk to non-sympathetic reporters; what’s he going to do when faced with an opponent that is more intelligent, capable and far more comfortable discussing the issues?

My guess? Lose the election.

Who cares? We don't hear the truth from anyone in D.C. anyway. Business as usual.

So look what your choices are: An impostor dictator wannabe who hates Americans, our Constitution, and the rule of law, or a flip flopper extraordinaire who has entered the witness protection program so as not to have to tell the truth. He could just lie during the campaign like the impostor Obummer.

As a RP supporter I don't have to sell my vote for corrupt reasons.

That is true. I feel sorry for the Romney crowd. They are really anti Obummer and will be shocked to learn that nothing will change if Romney is (S)elected the winner by the globalists.

I still maintain that we will not see an election in 2012. I see a false flag and martial law and a dictator Obummer.

Mitt can't give specifics of any of his plans because Grover Norquist hasn't written them yet.

Mitt doesn't have to know, either. He will just need to sign whatever Norquist and Rove give him.

"The right wing has spent decades and billions of dollars creating an echo chamber in which they can create whatever narrative they want in a fact free zone"? I

Indeed. This fact-free zone is the alternate reality bubble known as Right-Wing Fantasyland ( see http://kaleokualoha2878577.ne... ). A concise outline of this Land of Lunatics is presented by Conservapedia.

Fox News serves as the face of the Fantasyland Ministry of Truth, but even Fox avoids directly supporting Birthers. Because NO leading conservative is a Birther, this can distinguish between rational conservatives (like George Will and the National Review staff) and those on the lunatic fringe (WND, AIM, etc.)

My 14 year old was lying on the couch on Sunday when Boehner was being interviewed about the Affordable Care Act and the Supreme courts decision to uphold it. She could care a less about politics and I did not even think she was paying attention to the TV. All of a sudden she jumps up and starts yelling at Boehner on Tv to just ANSWER a straight question with a straight answer! She was livid! She said she had laid there listening to him avoid every single question and try and twist each one around and flat out refused to even answer a single one!

Yes, only 14... and she already see's how the GOP plays.

It is funny, isn't it? If my kids do not answer me with a straight answer, I demand it, period. Just give it to me straight and then we can figure out how to solve the problem. So for them to see adults who are "supposed" to be leaders, stumble around and shuffle their words and avoid anything they do not like... is well... I think not only a bad example to our children, but is downright pathetic!

But I have to say, I just smile when I re live my daughter just plain going off at Boehner on the TV! She does not even know who he is! But it infuriated her anyways!

It annoys any sane person that watches Republicans dodge and weave out of a question. I saw Mitch McConnell do it the other day on FOX for chrissake! He was being asked if Obamacare was repealed would the Republicans replace it with something else to cover the 30 million people without health care. He was asked 4 times by Chris Wallace who (to his credit) kept asking the question over and over, and that old snake dodged it every time. Republicans should be called "Artful Dodgers" they are skilled in avoiding a direct answer.

    Whoa!
And here it comes, ad hominems!
Can't even address my comment when you are the one proving me right, lol!

Be honest here, have you ever shown her any obama comments? If she is as smart as you purport then she would be just as mad, right? Or do you edit what she watches? Shoot, just show her the last State of the Union address or even the one before. Or maybe walk her through how obama got a Nobel Peace Prize for doing...com'on, you can think of it...not a damn thing. How about his attacks on SCOTUS? Does she know about those?
How about all the promises obama broke, have you discussed those with her? Have you explained to her that she already has something in the neighborhood of $90,000 debt to pay off? Does she know that her chances of getting into college much less those colleges even existing in fours years?

Unless you're part of the 1% (like obama) you and I and your daughter and my daughter are totally screwed.

Stupid is as stupid teaches...your daughter is not at fault for calling Boehner on the carpet. But to let her assume that libs have all the brains begs your lack of them.

Not insinuating a thing. Facts are facts including those about obama.
So you must have just let your kid view the news by accident. Okay, I get that. I don't even let mine watch it considering the bias from both sides. But when she asks a question I answer as best I can and give her both sides of the story. When she's confused and I can't get her to leave it to adults then I go to Utube and pull up a few vids concerning the topic in question and present equal time for both views.

She doesn't get mad, actually she laughs most of the time even at Romney. But obama she has nothing but pity for, shakes her head and says "poor man". I guess she's more generous than I am, out of the mouths of babes as it were. So your daughter caught Boehner in a bad moment, so what? obama can't do much without a teleprompter either.
Me? I'd rather my kids didn't know much about politics.

As to my avatar, you've got to be kidding. You put a lousy picture of bowed back equine and call that better? Puleesssseee!
As to intelligence, so far you've not shown much tolerance which if I understand from the left is a true sign of intelligence.
    NOT WINNING on your part...
