Mitt Romney Bain Capital Document Lists Him As 'Managing Member' In 2002

The latest excuse, for Romney's apparent lies, is offered by Ed Gillespie who stated Romney retired "retroactively." Does this sound like another Romney lie? (Link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/15/ed-gillespie-m...

Add another document to the pile of evidence contradicting Mitt Romney's continued insistence that he ended his active role with Bain Capital in early 1999, part of his long-running effort to avoid responsibility for the company's activity, related to outsourcing and bankruptcies, during the years that followed.

A corporate document filed with the state of Massachusetts in December 2002 -- a month after Romney was elected governor -- lists him as one of two managing members of Bain Capital Investors, LLC "authorized to execute, acknowledge, deliver and record any recordable instrument purporting to affect an interest in real property, whether to be recorded with a Registry of Deeds or with a District Office of the Land Court."

In August 2011, Romney told federal authorities, as part of the financial disclosure process, that he "retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee [for the 2002 Winter Olympics]. Since February 11, 1999, Mr. Romney has not had any active role with any Bain Capital entity and has not been involved in the operations of any Bain Capital entity in any way."

Bain Capital Investors is a Bain Capital entity.

The mountain of evidence that Romney had a connection to the firm after 1999 leaves him with two possible explanations, neither of them political appealing: Either Romney was officially in charge of the company but took no actual responsibility for it, or he was involved then and is either lying or shading the truth now.

Cons will no doubt come here to cry, "Its already been debunked." but the "debunking" is old news from over 2 weeks ago. The new evidence has the Romney Camp in a frenzy. Did he lie on his Presidential Disclosure Bid or did he lie to the SEC? its only one or the other.

    Mitt's Presidential Bid Financial Disclosure:
    romney false disclosure

    http://www.nytimes.com/intera...

One contradictory document would be enough. The SEC has disclosed 9 so far. Here are 3 of them:

In November of 1999, his signature appears on documents connected to a deal with Stericycle:

That same month, Romney's signature can be found on paperwork connected to a Bain deal with Integrated Circuit Systems Inc:

In February 2000, he signed documents related to a deal with Wesley Jessen Visioncare Inc:

Yes, nine SEC documents thus far. The problem for Romney is that he wants to tout his business 'success' but, at the same time, doesn't want the darker side of that 'success,' namely the destruction of American jobs and the huge profits he made from that destruction of jobs to see the light of day.

That subject was brought up on Meet the Press this morning. Romney's campaign manager said that Romney took a "leave of absence" from Bain during that period to run the Olympics. He then went on to say that Romney never actually came back to Bain and retired "retroactively." If that was the case, then either Romney was certifying actions taken at Bain to the SEC at a time when he was not actually running the company or, in spite of his "leave of absence" and/or "retroactive retirement," he was, in fact, running Bain. I find that confusing and would welcome a clarifying explanation from Romey.

If Romney hasn' clarified it by now, I doubt he will. Frankly, I don't think Romney has any intention of telling the American people the truth.

I don't think he CAN clarify it. In spite of David Gregory's asking the question more than once, the advisor just repeated the same comments he made originally.

I agree. Romney and his campaign have told so many different stories about Bain I doubt they can keep track of them now. There's a campaign job for a conservative on welfare who uses SH to criticize minorities on welfare: maintaining an Excel spreadsheet with Romney's Bain lies.

He signed documents on behalf of Bain after February 11, 1999 as "President and Chief Executive Officer." (links posted above)

On his Presidential Bid Financial Disclosure he states:

    romney false disclosure

One of these is a lie.

It's obvious Romney isn't being truthful and his 'explanations' grow more bizarre with each passing day. I could care less about your credit report, but thanks for trying to spin this as best as you probably could.
