He said what people wanted him to say to get elected. Why are people shocked? Nobody saw this coming? His sheeple sure didn't.

My feeling is that after he got into the White House, someone from the Pentagon briefed him on something having to do with Guantanamo and based on that info, he found he couldn't close it yet.

I can't watch because I don't want to get ticked off, but I remember it was suppose to be closing too. Have no idea what went wrong with that plan.

Based on your options, it appears a President is never allowed to change his mind without incurring the wrath of the opposition. I thought flexibility of thought when new conditions emerge was a sign of intelligence. In fact, it is. To those who say Gitmo should remain open for business, what is your complaint? This is a non-issue if you believe in the Gitmo concept.

What part of Healthy "Opposition" do you not get? Besides the man clearly said on many occasions he had deep concerns for the legality of GITMO and the very concept!

From his very own mouth he exclaimed his avid opposition and many voted for him based on that very foundation of his core beliefs!

Obama tried to close Gitmo, but Congress passed a law forbidding it.
No promise was broken here. And if Congress insists on it being a permanent facility, it needs to be adequate for that purpose.

It is not a BS story, it is simple, legal fact. Obama wanted to transfer the detainees stateside. Congress forbade spending any money to do so. Congress does have "power of the purse," you know.

US Congress blocks Guantanamo closure (AFP) – Dec 23, 2010

This argument against Obama keeps getting recycled -- it's a GOP disinformation campaign.

The point is: he lied, again. For somebody that claims to know so much about the Constitution, he should know what powers he has and doesn't have. He shouldn't go around writing worthless checks/lying.

He had the authority to close Gitmo until Congress tied his hands. No lie here, no ignorance, no deception. He was prevented from carrying out his promise.

You make a great point about Washington thinking sneaky timing is everything actually escapes US! And the Crooks need a reckoning from ALL of US does not matter what party or no party affiliation! We are all no more than worms if WE the People as a whole don't get this!

Case and point. I think you are very wise to see this as long range stuff. Also a ridiculous reality is they spend this kind of money regularly then close things anyway! In the early 90's the Long Beach Naval Shipyard was vastly renovated! New better refit equipment much modernized machine shops (Fact I know as I sold some modern machine tools into it at the time) new Enlisted Mans Quarters. A PX the size of a Super Walmart. Yet within two or three years it was all closed down!

Have yiou never made plans with a lovef one to do something but have been prevented from doing so by otherrs or circumstance?

Throughout his Presidency he has been blocked by ohers from fulfilling his intentions, both publically on the Hill and behind closed doors by the Democrats that backed Hilary.

Without the support of these people and in the knowledge that the a subatantial part of the US economy is no dependant on military spending how could he shut it all down without worsening the financial crisis?

John Boehner and his majority have the power to allow spending of detainee-transfer funds in order to close Guantanamo. You should call him and ask him why he hasn't.
